The newDisenchantedtrailer from Walt Disney Studios shows that although Amy Adams' Giselle found her happily ever after at the end of the first film, maintaining that picture-perfect life is no easy task inDisney Plus' sequel.
Disney’sEnchantedoffered audiences a genuinely heartwarming tale that also poked a bit of fun at the company’s own animated feature film tropes. The story focused on a princess named Giselle who is accidentally transported from her animated fairytale world of Andalasia tothe real-life New York Citythanks to the machinations of an evil witch. Although James Marsden’s Prince Edward, her supposed true love, follows her to the real world, Giselle finds herself falling for single parent Robert Philip (Patrick Dempsey) and becoming a mother figure to his daughter Morgan.

Naturally, Giselle and Robert fall madly in love and marry, with Giselle electing to stay in New York while Edward returns to the animated world with Idina Menzel’s Nancy Tremaine, who just happened to be Robert’s girlfriend. As seen inthe firstDisenchantedtrailer, however, Giselle is finding herself disillusioned with life in the Big Apple, which prompts the family to move to the suburban town of Monroeville. In the newDisenchantedtrailer, Morgan is clearly not thrilled to be moving away from her friends, Robert’s daily commute back to the city for work is clearly causing some strain on the family, and Giselle feels out of place thanks to local resident Malvina Monroe, played by Maya Rudolph.
Consequently, Giselle turns to the magic of Andalasia to wish for a “fairy tale life,” which turns the community of Monroeville into a fairy tale world, complete with dance numbers and sword-wielding Robert. However, Giselle begins transforming into the classic evil stepmother Disney fans are all too familiar with, the result of a curse according to Nancy. Malvina Monroe is clearly revealed to be the villain of the story, but Giselle warns her that there is only room forone evil Disney characterinDisenchanted.
As to be expected with any sequel, the stakes are certainly raised inDisenchanted. Seeing more of the fairy tale world making its way to the real world will certainly offer fresh material for the film, but whether or not it can capture the charm ofEnchantedremains to be seen.
