It’s hard to imagine thatThe Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowindis fast approaching its twentieth anniversary. Many older gamers will likely have fond memories of the first time they set foot off the ship and into the small fishing village of Seyda Neen. Some consider it to beone of the best games in theElder Scrollsfranchise, with a deep lore and slightly moodier atmosphere than the titles that would follow. The series may have moved on from it, but it still gets a lot of love, as one fan has shown recently.

A few days ago, user RonanLynam uploaded an illustration to theMorrowindSubreddit. The image is a brightly-colored, almost cartoon-y, picture which depicts a well-known location from the game’s opening stages. In particular, it shows a bird’s eye view of Seyda Neen, the aforementioned village that all players start in when they begin a new game. All the accouterments that make up the village are there. With its bright greens and blues, it’s a fresh take on the earlier aspects of the game which, in the vanilla version, have a more muddy and dingy aesthetic.

There are also a number of recognizable elements in the illustration, such as Fargoth, one of the first NPCs players encounter after they create their character, and who is involved in a couple of early side-quests. There’s alsoMorrowind’s transportation creature the silt strider, a huge flea-like monster that, for a small fee, can allow fast traveling between some of the major towns and cities. Many in the Reddit thread have commented on the overall image, as well as some of the finer details that are really indicative of Seyda Neen.

Not only that, but it caught the attention of the game’s developer, Bethesda, who recently posted it to its Twitter page. After all these years,Morrowindis still finding love in the community, and with theadd-on ‘Tamriel Rebuilt’ still being worked on, there’s a chance that this decades-old title in the popular RPG franchise may have a small resurgence and be introduced to new audiences.

Morrowindis also one of the longestElder Scrollsgames, with more than 300 hours of content. It would have been possible for RonanLynam to illustrate any part of the world, such as Balmora or Vivec City, but they chose the very beginning of the game instead. Given that it’s probably one of the most recognizable towns in the game, as it’s the one everyone has to encounter, it shows that this small area holds a special place in the artist’s heart.

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowindis available for PC and on the original Xbox.
