Already, a thirdSonic the Hedgehogfilm has been confirmed to be in the works, but now Sega is also considering some other classic titles to be made into movies. The game was praised for its unique art style and soundtrack, and while sales figures for the original release remained low, it has developed a solid fanbase in the years followingSpace Channel 5’slaunch. According to reports, the concept for the movie involves a protagonist working in a fast-food restaurant when Ulala appears, recruiting them to save the future from aliens by dancing.
Comix Zoneis a classic beat ‘em up title with an interesting twist where the character moves along through the game as if it were a comic book. Recently coming toNintendo Switch Online’s Expansion Pack,Comix Zoneproved to be successful due to its stylish visuals and concept. The original ideas appear to carry over to theComix Zonemovie, which will feature a jaded comic book artist who is sucked into the final issue of their series.
Currently, there’s no word on when these films could release, and it seems that they are still in the concept stage right now. To create theSpace Channel 5andComix Zoneadaptations, Sega is teaming up with Picturestart, a media company created by Erik Feig, who is currently working on theBorderlandsmovie. As well as the upcomingSonic, Space Channel 5, andComix Zoneprojects, Sega also has a live-actionYakuzamovie set for release later this year.
