Animal Crossing: New Horizonshas proven to be one of 2020’s biggest games. Not only was it a massive sales success, but Nintendo’s life-simulation game became a cultural phenomenon in its own right. Nintendo has keptAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsfans engaged with the game with regular updates, and while it may seem like that those updates will be going away, that’s apparently not necessarily the case.
In an interview with Polygon, Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser stated that Nintendo “definitely” sees major content updates forAnimal Crossing: New Horizonscontinuing in 2021. For 2020, these updates largely revolved around holidays and the like, so it will be interesting to see what Nintendo cooks up for 2021. Perhaps the updates will continue to happen around holidays, or maybe some of thenewAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsupdateswill come at unexpected times.

The latestAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsupdate prepped the game for end-year holidays, like Thanksgiving and Christmas.Animal Crossing: New Horizons' big Toy Day holidayis coming up later this week, and will be the last major content for the game in 2020.
SinceAnimal Crossing: New Horizonscame out in March of 2020, it missed January and February. PerhapsAnimal Crossing: New Horizonswill get an update revolving aroundValentine’s Dayin February, assuming the holiday theme will continue. If so, fans can expect Valentine’s Day-themed furniture and other items, and maybe even an NPC added to the mix. In fact, there is one NPC in particular that seems like he would be perfect for a Valentine’s Day event.
One of the Valentine’s Day benefitsAnimal Crossingplayers enjoyed inNew Leafwas getting hot chocolate from Brewster, the NPC that runs the coffee shop in the game.Brewster is not inAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsyet, and so Valentine’s Day seems like the perfect opportunity to add him to the mix. Beyond that, perhaps the event will revolve around handing out Valentine’s Day cards to one’s villagers in exchange for holiday-themed gifts.
Of course, that’s assumingNintendoeven has a Valentine’s Day update planned forAnimal Crossing: New Horizons. It seems likely, but so far no official details have been revealed about the game’s future updates. All we know now is that Nintendo does indeed plan to continue releasing substantialAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsupdates in 2021, so fans of the game should have plenty to look forward to in the new year.
