Marvel Studioshas dropped a behind-the-scenes featurette for the upcoming Disney Plus seriesMoon Knight, which shows new footage of Oscar Isaac as the Marvel Comics superhero.
The short minute-and-a-half featurette fromMarvel Studiosbegins with a close-up of Isaac as hetransforms intoMoon Knight. “The fun of Moon Knight is getting introduced to a new superhero in a new world,” says Ethan Hawk, who plays series antagonist Arthur Harrow. Isaac also comments on the character’s split personality, saying that they “ultimately wanted to take the mental health aspect of it incredibly seriously.” Series director Mohamed Diab highlights this, saying, “the way we’re tackling the story, we learn about Steven, then we learn about Mark, and they’re the same person.” Actress May Calamawy refers to the series as “Fight Clubmeets Indiana Jones,” and finally, the featurette ends with Isaac telling us that theMoon Knightwill be “totally unpredictable.”
Moon Knightis definitely one of the more interesting upcoming projects on Marvel Studios slate. The multimedia franchise has been taking a lot of swings in its most recent phase, exploring new genres and storytelling structures. This is especially true of Marvel Studios' original programming on Disney Plus, including the genre-defyingWandaVisionand themind-bending adventures ofLoki. WithMoon Knight,Marvel Studios appears to be delving into the supernatural, while also taking a much darker approach to the material than previous movies and tv shows.
Recently, Fiege even called the upcoming series “brutal,” saying that it’s not holding back. Some fans were skeptical of this claim, as the series is still streaming on the family-friendly Disney Plus. That being said, the streaming giant recently acquired the previously canceledMarvel Netflix shows, includingDaredevilandThe Punisher, which were notoriously far more violent and darker than other Marvel projects. Either way,Moon knightlooks to be something completely different for the MCU.
Disney Plus has no shortage of original projects on its slate. The streaming service recently dropped the first trailer forObi-Wan Kenobi, which is set to premiere in May 2022. Fans recently got their first look atactress Tatiana Maslanyas the Marvel heroShe-Hulk, which is also set to premiere sometime this year. On top of all that, there are also MANY upcoming Marvel Studios TV shows on the horizon, includingMs. Marvel,Secret Invasion,Armor Wars, the Agatha Harknessspinoff series, and confirmed second seasons for bothLokiand the animated seriesWhat If…?
