Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruinis releasing on PC and Switch this month and while manyMonster Hunterfansmight be used to the mainline games taking up hundreds of hours, this turn-based spin-off is a little different. Instead of going through hunt after hunt,Monster Hunter Stories 2players will follow a lengthy narrative that will take them through different biomes on a large world map.

Monster Hunter Stories 2players can spend lots of time in the game by grinding, hunting rare monsters, collecting eggs, and much more, but the main story can be completed rather quickly than otherMonster Huntergames. It happens to be a similar length to thefirstMonster Hunter Storiesgame on the 3DS, which took most players about 36 hours to play through.

How Long is Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin?

For those diving intoMonster Hunter Stories 2,players can expect to spend around 40 hoursto wrap up the main storyline and see the credits. If players don’t spend too much time grinding or looking for loot, they can easily complete the game around that specified amount of time. However, because of the depth of content in the game, some players will find themselves spending over 60 hours in the game to see everything there is.

Not only are there dozens of various monsters to fight and collect and train, but there are also treasure chests scattered throughout the world, online multiplayer modes to check out with friends, and even an abundance of side quests given out by the NPCs in every hub area. There’s a lot of side content to pull players away from the main story path, but doing so will provide them with extra items and stronger monsters.

Of course, like any otherMonster Huntergame, there are tons of different weapons and armor to craft at the blacksmith, and making some of these will require rare material and monster drops. Collectingevery armor setand weapon will undoubtedly take some players dozens of hours to do, but it could be worth it for the completionists out there.

Either way, 40 hours is still a fine length for a JRPG like this one. It’s not too long, and it’s not too short, offering players a well-paced journey that has plenty of extra content to keep fans busy even after the credits roll.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruinwill launch July 9th for PC and Switch.
