Road to the Show is the series' recurring single-player campaign mode, where players can create and customize their own baseball superstar and upgrade them like in an RPG. And, for the first time, custom characters, orBallplayers, can be both pitchers and hitters. The problem players have is that this mode is also connected to the Diamond Dynasty mode, a card-collecting mode that can be best described as the game’s equivalent ofFIFA’s Ultimate Team mode.

While the two modes being integrated has its benefits, such as how any progress made in Diamond Dynasty carries over into Road to the Show, players have realized that if they ignore Diamond Dynasty entirely, Road to the Show is almost painfully slow. It doesn’t help that Diamond Dynasty features microtransactions, meaning some believe thatMLB The Show 21is attempting to pressure them into spending real-world money.

This understandably isn’t a good look, especially since developer Sony San Diego insisted that theDiamond Dynastymode would be completely optional. Thankfully, the developer has doubled down on this claim and is already working to address player complaints with future patches, as well as make it clearer to players that they don’t need to touch the Diamond Dynasty mode if they don’t want to.

mlb the show 21 how to slide

In a blog post on the official website, Sony San Diego writes that it wants players who only wish to experience Road to the Show to be able to enjoy it and feel like they can make substantial progress. It doesn’t have exact dates for its planned updates but among them include improving progress made in Road to the Show as well as buffing overall archetype items. It adds that Road to the Show is required in order to maximize Ballplayer progress and this is unlikely to change

The full list of planned updates can be read on the website and it all certainly sounds promising. Considering how other sports titles like theFIFAgames seem to be inundated with controversies surrounding their implementation of microtransactions, with some arguing that they’rea form of gambling, long-time fans likely don’t wish to see the same thing befallMLB The Show.

MLB The Show 21is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
