The amount of animals available inMinecraftthat players can tame, breed, ride, or keep as pets continues to grow with every new update. Players can tame horses, cows, sheep, dogs, cats, and eventame polar bears inMinecraft. But the most colorful critter that players can keep as passive friends is the parrot.
Parrots are brightly colored birds that come in an array of colors. From jewel-toned blues, greens, reds, purples, and yellows to browns, greys, and a rainbow of other possibilities. These parrots are based almost exclusively on macaws of many varieties, with exception of grey parrots, which are modeled on real-life cockatiels They are found exclusively in the JungleBiome inMinecraft, usually hanging around in trees.

Parrots inMinecraftcan be used as an early detection system as well as decoration; they can ride on player’s shoulders and will imitate mobs sounds from up to 20 cubical blocks away. The parrot version of the sounds will be slightly higher pitch, but it will give players a heads up if they are close to a hostile mob.
And as a bonus, parrots will dance anytime they are near a jukebox that is active. If nothing else, parrot dance parties aresomething players can do if they get bored inMinecraft.
Taming Parrots
Here’severything players need to know aboutMinecraftparrots and taming them. Players will need to first search the jungle biomes for the color of the parrot they wish to tame. Once a possible new friend is found, the parrot will have to be fed. Parrots love seeds of all varieties; players can use melon seeds, wheat seeds, pumpkin seeds, or beetroot seeds.
Each time a player feeds a parrot some seeds, there is a 33.33% chance of taming it. Players can continue to feed their new parrots seeds, but parrots have no baby form, and they, unfortunately, cannot be bred. The closest thing parrots have to a baby form is the parrot egg, which is how they are spawned into Creative Mode.
Like wolves and cats, tamed parrots will follow players around. They can be told to sit to keep them in place, or players can have their bird buddies travel around on their shoulders. Players can have one parrot on each shoulder, starting always with the left shoulder. Parrots on shoulders appear in inventory slots.
In order to get a parrot to hitch a ride on an avatar’s shoulder, players just have to walk through the bird. Parrots will dismount a shoulder if the player takes damage, steps in any amount of water, or falls. Unfortunately, players can’t feed a parrot aPotion of Water Breathingand take them deep-sea diving with them.
A Word of Warning
There are several warning splash texts inMinecraftagainst feeding a parrot chocolate or avocados for a reason. If players feed their new feathered friend a cookie, the parrot will become fatally poisoned and die. Also, players falling into dangerous places like lava can also kill tamed parrots that were on their shoulders. There are much nicer ways of getting rid of unwantedMinecrafttamed animals, so please don’t kill the birds.
