Following the climactic ending to the Infinity Saga withAvengers: Endgame, which saw the satisfying conclusion of many iconic character arcs and storylines, it was hard to imagine where MCU could lead next. Now in its fourth phase, the MCU shows no plans of slowing down, especially whenMarvel Studiosexecutive Victoria Alonso recently shared that fans should “hang on tight” for what is coming.
Beginning withWandaVision,Marvel Studios' first original series for Disney Plus, phase four continues to bethe MCU’s most expansive phase yet, as it features more cosmic related stories and characters as well as the introduction of the multiverse, concepts that have no boundaries to what is possible with this long-running franchise.

Now speaking on the¡Despierta América!talk show (via The Cosmic Circus), Alonso opened up about Marvel’s recent success and what fans can look forward to as phase four progresses. “The pandemic took away our ability to go to work, but it didn’t take away our ability to create. Last year, we produced 46 hours [of content]…working on it from our homes," Alonso shared. “Apart from that, we also worked on streaming, which we had never done before, [and] animation, which we had never done before. We premiered an entire [animated] series calledWhat If…?, where we took all of our stories and changed those moments into others.Oscar Isaac is coming up now as our Moon Knight. He’s just absolutely wonderful. Now, between March and May…you all better hang on tight.”
Judging from her comments, it appearsMoon Knight(which is set to release on March 30) and the next feature film,Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness(set for a May 6 release date), will have lasting implications for the rest of the MCU. Other than those two projects right around the corner, big sequel films likeThor: Love and Thunder,Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,The Marvels, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, as well as series likeShe-Hulk,Ms. Marvel, andSecret Invasionare all expected to releaseroughly within the next year. On top of that, reboot projects forThe Fantastic Four,X-Men, andBladewill continue to introduce new characters into the MCU.
While it’s hard to tell what all the Marvel Studios content is leading towards, rumors have been brewing that a newAvengerstrilogy focusing on theSecret Warscomic storyline is in early development. For those who are unaware,Secret Warsfeatured a wide array of characters, as seen in previous Avengers films, but on a much bigger scale, as heroes and villains from separate universes unite for battle on a new world called Battleworld.
With the introduction of theEternalsas well as the original Avengers team passing the torch down to their successors (Yelena Belova taking over for Black Widow, Kate Bishop taking over for Hawkeye,Spider-Man for Iron Man, and so on), it makes perfect sense to have the new heroes gear up for their first crossover film.
Marvel Studios' phases 1-4 are available to stream on Disney Plus.
