After two miniseries featuring run-of-the-mill heroes,Lokiwill surely bring a nice change of pace for the MCU when the God of Mischief goes solo for the first time. As it turns out, Tom Hiddleston is already up to no good, with the surprise announcement thatLokiwill be messing with Disney Plus' schedule.

Originally planned for release on Friday, June 11,Loki’s entire settingalready made it one of the MCU’s more interesting propositions for this year. However, consideringThe Bad Batchis now taking up Fridays with a differentStar Warsflavor, it really didn’t play out to Loki’s strengths or personality to share streaming prime time with anyone else.

For that reason, Marvel Entertainment allowed Tom Hiddleston to act out the announcement thatLokiwill now premiere on Wednesday, June 9, instead of that week’s Friday. Although not explicitly saying the move is permanent, the entire “Wednesdays are the new Fridays” narrative makes it obvious that the new series really won’t be playing by the same rules asWandaVisionandThe Falcon and the Winter Soldier, because as Hiddleston says in the video, Loki can be heroic in his own way.

The video comes only two days after Marvel posted its celebration of movies clip, which also brought the news ofconfirmed titles forBlack Panther: Wakanda ForeverandThe Marvels. But as the God of Mischief would say, he’s a bit tired of all that superhero showcase stealing the spotlight away from his important debut, and he’s about to prove his worth to marvel in an entirely new wayif theLokitrailers are anything to go by.

Lokiis a bit of a standout from the two previous Marvel miniseries in the sense that it doesn’t deal with the aftermath ofAvengers: Endgame, but rather departs to an entirely different timeline where the God of Mischief himself has not lived through the events that made him a more charming and redeemable character. While cameos and ties to other MCU productions have not been on the forefront ofWandavisionnorThe Falcon and the Winter Soldier,Lokicould set up a lot of the rules that will govern in Phase Four.

Of course, from a business standpoint, it really doesn’t make much sense to putLokiandThe Bad Batchin a battle for attention on the same platform, so the move could have been easily foreseen by many. For fans, this only means Disney is being really mindful that they always have something new to watch every time they tune in.

Lokiwill premiere on Disney Plus on Wednesday, June 21, 2025.
