The latest LEGO andStar Warsmashup is heading to Disney Plus as the far away galaxy will get a new summer-themed special come August. From the looks of it, Darth Vader and Palpatine are ready to provide fans with plenty of laughter without all the seriousness of the main timeline.
Lucasfilm had previously produced similarStar Warsstreaming shorts for Disney Plus, like last year’sLEGO Star Wars Terrifying Talesor the 2020Holiday Special, which consisted of similar light-hearted takes on the franchise. The animated shorts are not to be confused with the ill-famed 1978Star Wars Holiday Special, the first of the franchise’s many spinoffs, which came out one year afterA New Hope,though without George Lucas writing or directing, and has gone on to be pretty much forgotten ever since.

This time around,LEGO Star Wars Summer Vacationfocuses on Finn and company shortly after the events taking place in theRise of Skywalkerto finally “have some fun” on Disney Plus, as the stormtrooper deserter puts it, starting August 5. Naturally, things don’t go exactly as planned, though perhaps the biggest draw for manyStar Warsfans will be theopportunity to see Darth Vaderand Emperor Palpatine lighten up a bit as Anakin Skywalker strolls through the beach humming his iconic Imperial March. Another standout moment involves Vader trying to get on the good side of his Sith master with some deadly lightsaber limbo.
That’s far from the only funny bits teased in the trailer, as Finn even encounters the elder ghost of Obi-Wan Kenobi, who’s seen remembering fonder times partying with none other than Jabba the Hutt.The Summer Vacationspecial welcomes the likes of Helen Sadler in her role as Rey, Omar Miller as Finn, Jake Green as Poe, andKelly Marie Tran as Rose. Plus, Weird Al Yankovic fans will love to know the musician performs the song “Scariff Beach Party” on it.
The Christmas-themed Holiday Special saw Rey Skywalker do a bit of time traveling across many of the galaxy’s eras, and while this one appears to have a more fixed setting, it does promise plenty of fun, especially by seeing older characters from the Skywalker saga interact with the sequel trilogy’s protagonists. Most crucially, the long-standing LEGO andStar Warspartnership offers yet another chance to see Rey, Finn and Poe.
Disney Plus’Obi-Wan Kenobifinished its limited six-episode runwith mixed reviews and the pervasive feeling that Obi-Wan would have been a better movie, so a comedic spin onStar Warsis always welcome.
