Call of Duty: Warzoneis coming up on its 1 year anniversary, and rumors indicate that it may bring massive changes to the popular battle royale games. MultipleCall of Dutyleakers, who have accurately leakedCall of Dutynews in the past, have teased thatCall of Duty: Warzoneis blowing up the Verdansk battle royale map with a nuclear explosion.
According to the rumors, theCall of Duty: Warzonenuke event is going to take place on Thursday, March 11, at which point Verdansk will be blown up and a new battle royale map will take its place. The going theory is that the newCall of Duty: Warzonemap will be based onCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold WarFireteam maps and will be set in the Ural Mountains. Whether or not that comes to pass remains to be seen, but it will definitely be interesting to see ifVerdansk is really going awayor not.

Getting rid of the Verdansk map inCall of Duty: Warzonewould be a massive gamble on the part of Activision. After all, previous battle royale games have upset fans when they made similar moves, but on the other hand, this could be the shot in the arm thatWarzoneneeds to maintain its relevancy in 2021. AnewWarzonemapcould not only excite those who are still playing the game regularly, but also bring back lapsed players who have moved on to other titles.
It should be noted that theCall of Duty: Warzonenuke event has actually been teased in-game as well. Ever since theBunker 11 nuclear warhead was found inCall of Duty: Warzonelast year, speculation has been running rampant about how the device could be used to re-shape the battle royale map. And that is another possibility that fans should keep in mind - maybe Verdansk isn’t leaving completely, but rather, being reworked via nuclear explosion.
Call of Duty: Warzonehas two maps available to players at the time of this writing: Verdansk and thesmaller-scale Rebirth Island. It’s possible thatCall of Duty: Warzonewill add a third map instead of completely replacing Verdansk, but no one can say for certain at this point except Activision and the developers. Of course, fans can’t discount the possibility that these reports about theCall of Duty: Warzonenuke event have been fabricated, so they should keep that in mind as well.
