TheKingdom Heartsseries has had all of its current installments released on the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One, but it has yet to arrive on the Nintendo Switch.Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memorywill be the first time the franchise appears on the Nintendo console, and so some may wonder if its arrival means the rest of the games will also be coming to the Switch in the future.

Kingdom Heartsseries director Tetsuya Nomuraanswered this question in a recent interview with Nintendo Enthusiast. What he had to say, however, won’t be the answer everyone wants to hear. According to him, Square Enix has no plans on porting the rest of theKingdom Heartsgames over to the Nintendo Switch.

The answer Nomura provided as to why this is was an expected one. He claims that Square Enix did look into bringing the rest of the franchise over to the Nintendo Switch, but the developer ran into technological difficulties.

Considering Nomura has no plans to bringKingdom Heartsto the Nintendo Switch, it’s a little weird that he decided to port Melody of Memory to it. Not only that, but theNintendo Switch’sKingdom Hearts Melody of Memoryhas more features on it than both the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One versions.

This same type of issue popped up whenKingdom Hearts 3was revealed for the Xbox One. None of the other games in the series had been ported to the console yet, so any Xbox players without knowledge of the franchise had no way of personal gaining any context for what was going on in the game without going out an buying another console.

Luckily for Melody of Memory,Kingdom Heartsdoes have an expansive history with Nintendo. Nearly half of all of its installments originally released onNintendo handheldssuch as the Gameboy Advance, Nintendo DS, and the Nintendo 3Ds. It’s also a game that will more or less recap the entire series, so it doesn’t need help providing context.

Tetsuya Nomura did say in this same interview that he enjoyed the Nintendo Switch, though. And while he won’t be bringing theKingdom Heartsseriesto it, he does want to provide the console with other games that he’s worked on. He didn’t specify what games he wants to bring over, but the first titles of his to come to mind deal withFinal Fantasy.

Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memoryreleases November 13 for PS4, Xbox One, and Switch.
