With the hit CBS seriesGhostsbeginning to wrap - fans were wondering if they would ever find out the mystery behind Trevor’s lack of pants. Lucky for them, this week’s episode revealed all the answers.

“The writers, Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, asked me if I had any thoughts about my character’s time period and stuff like that. They’re really great collaborators. One of the things they asked me was, ‘how do you think he died?’ and I gave them some ideas,” said Asher Grodman, who plays the suit-and-tie Wall Street bro. However, his pitches didn’t make the script. “When I read what they wrote, I was glad they ignored all my ideas because what they came up with is so much better. It’s going to surprise everyone.”

Ghostsis the latestsitcomto take fans by storm. The show has found major success with its first season and has already been renewed for a second season. Based on a BBC series with the same name, the show follows lovers Samantha and Jay and their journey to ditch the city and renovate a rundown country estate they inherited. But their bed-and-breakfast dreams are put on hold after they find out that a group of tight-knit ghosts occupy the space. Throughout the series, viewers are able to watch the relationships between the ghosts, and between the ghosts and the estate owner, blossom as details about their lives are enclosed. Throwing it back to the 90s is Grodman and his pantless character Asher.

While many were expecting the character’s pants explanation to tie back to his life-hard-die-young party-goer lifestyle, instead they were treated to something unpredictable in the latest episode “Trevor’s Pants”. The actor shared, “They went and made it very sentimental. It’s what makes our show great.” Grodman had no hard feelings about the showrunners' rejection of his ideas, filled with debauchery, drugs, and threesomes. “At the time, I didn’t know what our show was yet. We only had the pilot. With this one, they could have gone in any direction. There were infinite possibilities.”

In addition to the conversation above,Game Rantwas quick to ask Grodman about his inspiration tapping into his character - which he shared didn’t include the original BBC series - and his experience filming sans pants… for the entire season.

Grodman explained that he avoided the show’s source material due to intimation, especially during auditions and filming. Since then, he has watched the show which came with a new wave of pride to be part of the infamous series (dubbed the Ghost Universe). Moving beyond that and into his inspirations for Asher, the actor, surprisingly, didn’t turn to many specific movies or television shows. Instead, he was more focused on tapping into the era. “Trevor’s heyday was around the mid 90s to the early 2000s. Doing the show was like going back to childhood. I watched some of the movies I grew up on and went back toSeinfeld. We haveSeinfeldreferences right in the pilot.”

Now what about the lack of pants ordeal? He said, “I’ve never done a comedy before. In the beginning, the no-pants thing was a bit of a comfort. I thought, ‘okay, if I miss some jokes then at least my bare legs are there.’ As the season went on, it got annoying at moments. But also, as an actor, you’re always taking risks and trying stuff. It’s hard to sleepwalk through a day of work with your pants off. The no-pants keeps me very, very awake, aware, and present.”

As a last note, Grodman wanted to shout out his supporting ensemble cast in this week’s episode: Robert Bazzocchi, Blair Penner, Rob Huebel, Brian Cook, and Julius Cho. “The fun challenge of this episode is figuring out Trevor’s family dynamic from when he was alive. These guys are all great. They bring great stuff to it.”
