Summary

Destiny 2’s The Final Shape expansion will see the culmination of the Light and Darkness saga, whose seeds have been sown for almost 10 years, and Guardians will have to seek old friends and fight new foes inside The Traveler’s Pale Heart. While it’s unclear exactly if there will be more casualties after the recent death of Amanda Holliday, either in The Final Shape itself or ahead of it in Season 22 and 23, Ikora seems to be part of the main cast for the expansion, and it poses questions as to what happens in the finale ofDestiny 2’s Season of the Witch.

Arguably one of the best seasons in recent years, Season of the Witch is tasked with turning Eris Morn into the Hive God of Vengeance to defeat Xivu Arath, the God of War, in battle. The premise alone seems impossible because, asDestiny 2’s own cast admits, one cannot defeat war itself on any battlefield - however, Eris Morn rising as a Hive God of vengeance could turn the tides in her favor in a few ways. More importantly, the whole season’s storyline has seen Ikora doubt Eris' plan simply because she cares about her friend, and this too could become a crucial piece of the puzzle in the finale.

Destiny 2’s Season of the Witch Finale Could be the Culmination of Years of Storytelling

Destiny 2’s Eris Mornhas a complicated history with the Hive, considering Crota slaughtered her entire fireteam in the Great Disaster on the Moon, and then other Hive Gods like Oryx and Savathun became archenemies of humanity. Season of the Witch is interesting because it plays on the game’s lore on multiple levels, as it’s a callback to The Witch Queen expansion, the confrontation between Mara Sov and Savathun in the so-called “tale of two queens,” and also poses big questions about the Exo Stranger’s dark future timeline.

In thedark future ofDestiny 2, Eris Morn succumbs to the allure of the Darkness, and without friends and allies, she becomes the ultimate danger to humanity, to the point that she is the Witch Queen herself - not Savathun. This timeline has been seemingly prevented in various ways, such as Guardians learning to wield Stasis and then Strand wisely or Rasputin sacrificing himself to save the people of the Last City. And in the current timeline, Eris Morn is surrounded by friends and people who love her, as Ikora points out during one of the seasonal story beats.

Ikora is one of those people Eris Morn calls friend, and the fact that she has been telling her to stop in order not to die in the process of gathering more and more tithes to feed her Hive God self is further proof of that. Ikora is also one of themost powerful characters inDestiny 2, which has been shown time and again in cutscenes, story missions, and even through lore books. In fact, it’s plausible that when Eris eventually faces Xivu Arath, Ikora will finally give in and tithe plenty of power back to her friend in order for her to win.

This may seem like a tall order, but not only is Ikora extremely powerful, Eris has an ace up her sleeve. In Season of the Witch’s activities, Xivu Arath is repeatedly shown saying she will gladly battle Eris Morn, her “new sister,” to exact revenge for the death of Oryx and Savathun, as she considers the Lightless Hunter responsible for them. As much as wars and battles empower Xivu Arath,Destiny 2’s Sword Logic would empower Eris Morn every time someone wants revenge against another being. With Ikora’s tithes and Xivu Arath’s thirst for revenge both powering up Eris for the final showdown, there is a chance she might defeatDestiny 2’s God of Warherself.

Destiny 2is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
