Hogwarts Legacyfollows the story of a young fifth-year student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Shortly after arriving at the famed wizarding school, the protagonist will be given the chance to explore the world outside the castle’s walls, where they can encounter a variety of magical beasts.

While most of the beasts inHogwarts Legacy, once found, can be tamed and returned tothe Room of Requirement, some cannot be interacted with at all and appear randomly. This can make finding these beasts extremely difficult, especially if the player doesn’t know where to begin searching for them. There are two ways to find the Giant Squid inHogwarts Legacy, but one method is easier than the other.
Where To Find The Giant Squid In Hogwarts Legacy?
Though the Giant Squid never made an appearance in theHarry Pottermovies, it was one of the most iconic creatures to comefrom the books. It is said to reside in the Black Lake, just east of Hogwarts, where it often lifts its tentacles to greet nearby students. Once, it even used its tentacles to save Dennis Creevey, a young student who fell into its watery domain.

Those familiar with the Giant Squid from the books will know exactly where to begin searching for it, but those unaware might stumble upon it randomly while exploring the grassy plains surrounding Hogwarts and watching the Black Lake.
How To See The Giant Squid In Hogwarts Legacy
Players will get a brief glimpse of the Giant Squid during the Flying Class main quest, where its tentacles will emerge from the Black Lake. To see it again, the player shouldwander around the Black Lakeuntil it lifts its tentacles from beneath the water once more. Sadly, there is no way to get a full look at the creature, but judging by the size of its tentacles, it is safe to assume it lives up to its title.
The Giant Squid tends to lift its tentacles above the water randomly, so some players may need to wait a while if they hope to get a glimpse of it. That said, if it doesn’t spawn after a few minutes, the player shouldfast-travel awayand then travel back to improve their chances.
Upon reaching the Black Lake, the player shouldmount their broomin preparation for the creature’s appearance, as doing so will allow them to get extremely close to its tentacles before they disappears.
The Easiest Way To See The Giant Squid In Hogwarts Legacy
It is also possible to get a brief glimpse of the Giant Squid somewhere else, but only ifthe player opted for Slytherinduring the Sorting Ceremony. This will grant the player access to the Slytherin Common Room, where they will be able to make the Giant Squid appear behind the window to the Black Lake.
In order to make the Giant Squid appear, the player mustcast magic at the window overlooking the lakea few times, until the Giant Squid smashes its tentacle against the glass. While this method doesn’t reveal too much of what the Giant Squid looks like, it’s still a pretty neat addition to the game for members of the Slytherin house.
Hogwarts Legacyis available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. PS4 and Xbox One versions will release on April 4, and a Switch version will release on July 25.
