A Reddit user has garnered over 700 upvotes on a post in which they voice their frustration with being unable to pause theHogwarts Legacycutscenes. Like many other triple-A games,Hogwarts Legacyis full of cutscenes that help tell its story, but unlike some other games that offer a pause option during these moments, they have to play out completely intheHarry Potterprequel.Hogwarts Legacyhad already sold millions of copies ahead of launch and had a successful launch day, so this pausing method may benefit much of the audience beyond the Reddit community.

Reddit user FreshlyPeeledBananas recently expressed frustrations with the cutscenes that can’t be paused, andHogwarts Legacyisn’t the only game with gamers in the community dedicating threads to this conundrum. With one fan suggesting thatHogwarts Legacyconsoleplayers press the PlayStation or Xbox button on their controllers to pause the cutscenes, others have confirmed that they will have to hold the buttons for the trick to work right. Simply pressing these buttons will cause the cutscenes to continue to play out as they normally would, while someHogwarts Legacyplayers have stated that holding the buttons circumvents this issue.
Prior to receiving this tip from otherHogwarts Legacyplayers, FreshlyPeeledBananas had been using the combination of alt and F4 as a workaround to close the game entirely and restart from the necessary checkpoint. According to one Reddit user, simply opening the Steam overlay while theHogwarts Legacycutscenesunfold isn’t enough, as they continue despite being partially obscured. BecauseHogwarts Legacywill continue to be updated, a future patch may allow players to pause during the cutscenes, but until then this console technique may be the only way of circumventing the issue.
