One moment that really got fans talking was when acclaimed film director Guillermo del Toro appeared to declare the winner of the Best Art Direction award. Not only did Guillermo del Toro reveal thatDeathloopwon Best Art Direction, but he also seemingly teased something aboutSilent Hill.

At The Game Awards 2021, Guillermo del Toro said, “You know, one franchise I love the art direction in:Silent Hill. I hope we get a new one of those.” This is significant because del Toro was previously working onSilent Hillsin collaboration with Hideo Kojima and Konami. There have been conflicting rumors that Hideo Kojima is working on aSilent Hillgame, though nothing has been confirmed at the time of this writing. Some have made the claim that Kojima is helping make aSilent HillPS5 exclusive, whereas others claim that Kojima is making an original horror game as an Xbox exclusive. Whatever the case may be, del Toro’s comments understandably gotSilent Hillfans buzzing, as many took it as a tease that theSilent Hillrumors are true and he may even be involved.

Unfortunately forSilent Hillfans, del Toro has dashed their hopes. Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, del Toro clarified that he is not involved in any kind ofSilent Hillproject. He explained that he “wanted to tickle the ribs of Konami” because he still doesn’t understand whySilent Hillswas canceled. “What we were going to do was so enthralling,” del Toro said. So, essentially, del Toro’s comment aboutSilent Hillat The Game Awardswas merely a way to troll Konami and was not a genuine tease.

The vision that del Toro and Kojima had forSilent Hillswas never realized, but the two have collaborated since then. As some may recall, acharacter in Kojima’sDeath Strandinguses del Toro’s likeness, though thePacific RimandShape of Waterdirector did not actually provide the voice work for the character.

Fans of Guillermo del Toro can head to theaters to check out his latest film, thewell-receivedNightmare Alley, though they shouldn’t expect to see him involved with video games again anytime soon, if ever.
