It seems fair to say thatGrand Theft Auto 6is one of the most anticipated games of all time. As fans approachGrand Theft Auto 5’s 10-year anniversary, the need for a shiny new entry in the long-running crime franchise becomes all the more obvious.GTA 5spawned fan theories aboutGTA 6, and while it is still being played by millions, it’s time for a brand new game with all the modern bells and whistles associated with recent Rockstar titles. One of those new bells and whistles could be a fully-fledged campaign co-op mode.
In September of last year,Grand Theft Auto 6suffered a leak of monumental proportions. Normally, Rockstar likes to keep its games a complete secret until they’re ready to be revealed, but this time, it wasn’t so lucky. TheGTA 6leakermanaged to get their hands on an early playable build of the game, along with some key bits of information found in the build’s architecture. The biggest leak revolved aroundGrand Theft Auto 6’s new playable characters, who could end up paving the way for co-op gameplay.

Grand Theft Auto 6’s Rumored Protagonists Could Pave the Way for Campaign Co-Op
According to the infamous leak,Grand Theft Auto 6will feature two main playable protagonists named Lucia and Jason. This marks the first time in franchise history that players will be able to control a female protagonist. It’s believed thatGTA 6’s protagonists are inspired by real-life crime couple Bonny and Clyde, who robbed a series of banks during the 1930s, during the Great Depression. Bonny and Clyde’s story has been romanticized a lot over the years, with stage plays, musicals, movies, and TV shows all depicting the couple as maddened, lusty criminals who lived for the thrill of their robberies.
Bonny and Clyde are the perfect inspiration forGrand Theft Auto 6’s story, and if the rumors are true, then this could end up being the most compelling relationship in the franchise’s long history. It seems likely that Lucia and Jason will have a very close relationship in the game, and this naturally lends itself to some intense moments, such as one protagonist getting captured, and leaving the other without a partner. The best way to evoke even more intensity from these scenes andGTA 6’s central relationship is to translate those feelings directly to gameplay, and a great way to do that is with co-op.
Fans have been asking for campaign co-op in aGTAgame for a long time now, andGTA 6has the perfect opportunity to deliver it. While the leak mentions that players will be able toswitch between Lucia and Jason inGTA 6on the fly using a system similar toGTA 5’s character selection mechanic, it might be more meaningful if players could experience the story in co-op with another player. This could make any inevitable tragedy hit a little harder.
WithGTA Onlinebeing such a monumental hit in the gaming industry, it would make sense for Rockstar to implement a few more multiplayer mechanics intoGTA 6’s campaign. If Rockstar still wanted to makeGTA 6’s campaign single-player focused, then it could only allow co-op for certain missions such as bank heists, where both protagonists are working together at once. Of course,Grand Theft Auto 6should still tailor the experience for solo players, but it would be great to finally see some sort of campaign co-op in the series.
