As Rocksteady is busy bringing the ragtag Suicide Squad into gaming withSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, WB Games Montreal is busy bringing the Bat-family to console and PC inGotham Knights. It marks the second, full DC Comics title from the studio following its 2013 entry into theBatman: Arhkamseries,Batman: Arkham Origins. However, the studio isn’t wasting time and is already hard at work on another triple-A title allegedly set within the DC universe.
Gotham Knightsfollows Robin, Batgirl, Red Hood, and Nightwing as they fight to protect Gotham City in the wake of Batman’s apparent death. As the four continue their mentor’s war on crime, they find themselves in the crosshair of the mysterious Court of Owls as it attempts to tighten its grip on Gotham. The surviving Bat-family will need to rely on each other to defeat the Court and other members of Batman’s rogues' gallery while also trying to uncover the truth behind Batman’s death.

WB Games Montrealisn’t waiting forGotham Knightsto release to get started on its next major title. Twitter user Faizan Shaikh, who regularly shares job postings for major upcoming titles, pointed out Montreal is currently hiring a senior gameplay AI programmer for an unannounced title. He states that this isn’t necessarily news about another title being in development, but the job listings confirm it.
The question is what the next major title from the Canadian studio could be. As Shaikh points out, it is possible this could be the long-rumored Superman game which was also connected to Rocksteady until its Suicide Squad game was officially announced. However, given other rumors about WB wanting to build a sharedDC games universeit could be any number of DC characters at the studio’s disposal.
If theSupermanrumors turn out to be true, it would mark the first stand-alone Superman title since the poorly received 2006Superman Returnsgame. Players can argue, though, a reason there hasn’t been another game is that Superman is one of the most difficult comic book characters to design a game around given how powerful he is.
Regardless of what the game turns out to be, though, players won’t be starved for comic book-centric games for the foreseeable future. AlongsideGotham KnightsandSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Monolith announcedWonder Womanat the 2021 Game Awards as its next major project. Marvel also has a few games of its own on the way between Firaxis’Midnight Sunsand Insomniac Games’WolverineandSpider-Man 2.
Gotham Knightsis set to release in 2022 on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
