Kratos has access to a powerful arsenal inGod of War Ragnarok. While the Leviathan Axe was certainly a memorable addition, there is no weapon more iconic than the Blades of Chaos. Unlike its predecessor from 2018, players get access to the Blades of Chaos soon afterGod of War Ragnarokbegins.
Just like in the previous game, it is possible forGod of War Ragnarokplayers to upgradethe Blades of Chaoswith special resources they find across the Realms. The item that is needed to upgrade the Blades of Chaos is called Chaos Flame, and this guide will show players how to get them.

Where to Find Chaos Flames
While Chaos Flames are a crafting resource, they are different from most other resources inGod of War Ragnarok. While most resources can be found in chests, that is not the case for Chaos Flames. In order to claim them,God of War Ragnarokplayers must earn them by defeating bosses that arepart of the main storyline.
There are five Chaos Flames in total that are obtained through the main story. Since these bosses are not optional, players will not need to worry about missing potential upgrades.
How to Use Chaos Flames
OnceGod of War Ragnarokplayers have found a Chaos Flame, the next step is to take it to Sindri and Brok.Once players find the Dwarves, they will be able to apply the Chaos Flame to the Blades of Chaos and raise its level. When it comes to upgrading the Blades of Chaos, no other materials are required other than the Chaos Flame. So players will not need to worry about saving Hacksilver for upgrading their weapon.
When the Blades of Chaos are upgraded with a Chaos Flame, it increases the Strength stat significantly.God of War Ragnarokplayers hoping that upgrading will unlock new skills and abilities will be disappointed, as the primary focus of upgrading is to boost the damage of the weapon. New abilities and skills are acquired by spending XP. In addition to that, upgrading a weaponhelps players level up.
While upgrading weapons doesn’t require anything more than a Chaos Flame (or Frozen Flame for the Leviathan Axe), it will still cost Hacksilver and other resources to build and/or upgrade pommels.
Are There Other Ways to Upgrade the Blades of Chaos?
While the main method for upgrading the Blades of Chaos inGod of War Ragnarokis to get Chaos Flames through story progression, there is another way to upgrade the Blades of Chaos.God of War Ragnarokplayers are able to obtain Chaos Sparks by defeating optional bosses that spawn from the Draugr Holes. Once six Chaos Sparks have been obtained,God of War Ragnarokplayers will be able to turn it into a Chaos Flame that they can use to upgrade their weapon.
