Fortnitehas infamously been in a state of early access for the last 3 years since its initial surfacing back in July of 2017, but it seems that the battle royale title has finally shed that moniker. As of today, the game is officiallyno longer in early access, so what’s changing?
Many assumed that whenFortnitefinally left early access, something big would happen, but that doesn’t seem to have been the case. For the most part, this change flew under the radar and wasn’t accompanied by any big update. Nonetheless, it’s nice for the game to finally recognize itself as complete.

To be fair,Fortnitedid just have its biggest event yet with theend of season 2 resulting in the entire map being flooded.
The reasonFortniteis officially out of early access now is because theSave the World PvE modeis finally finished. Not many are familiar with this portion of the game as it is nowhere near as popular as the Battle Royale side and also costs money to access, but Save the World is a cooperative mode in which players team up to fight hordes of computer controlled enemies. This is actually the foundation ofFortnite, and the battle royale mode was initially intended to be an extra game mode rather than the main event.
Of course,Epic Games saw that battle royale was kicking offand capitalized on the opportunity, making that its main focus and putting the Save the World mode on hold for awhile. Now that it’s finally finished,Fortnitecan call itself a complete game. Save the World will remain a premium game mode, but has a lot of exciting new things coming to it. Epic Games itself decided to highlight the introduction of Ventures, which it describes as “season long excursions that take place in a seasonal zone with new and unique modifiers to tackle.” Hopefully this will add some replayability to the PvE experience.
It’s worth noting that while allexisting battle royale cosmeticswill be usable in the Save the World mode, future ones may not be initially. More likely than not, Epic Games will enable new cosmetics eventually but it is clear that this is not its focus at the moment.
