As the top battle royale,Fortnitedoesn’t have much need to iterate on what it currently has available. That doesn’t stopFortniteplayers from taking ideas from other battle royales in the hope that Epic Games might see and change its mind, however. Take for example a recent recommendation to improve a certain aspect ofFortnite. A talentedFortniteplayer made a concept video showing what “Calling Cards” might look inFortnitethat genuinely looks outstanding.
Calling Cards are the name of the feature in question inCall of Duty, but they’re known as nameplates colloquially. They’re also seen in a ton of other games, includingApex Legends,Destiny 2, and evenFall Guys. Essentially, they’re customized banners shown in menus featuring cosmetics that can be earned through in-game achievements or purchased/acquired like other cosmetics.Fortnite, surprisingly, doesn’t use them, despite nameplates being common in so many other live service titles.

The nameplate concept video was made by ZRKGlitcher and shared on Reddit, a visual way of showcasing how nameplates add anew layer of customization toFortnite. The banner itself features the player’s name, along with a title or achievement just below it, overlaid on top of a custom background. To the right of the nameplate is an avatar of the player’s choice, which can either be their character or another avatar. Along the left side is the player’s level with an emblem representative of their progress. Each nameplate represents its respective player uniquely.
At the end of the concept video, ZRKGlitcher explains why they took the time to make it. They say that they like the idea of adding “more personal customization” as well as “challenges” that can be completed each season. They add that they have more ideas for nameplates, hinting that they might make further pieces ofFortnitenameplate conceptart later. Regardless, their video provides a clear and excellent introduction to the feature.
On one hand, the nameplates make a lot of sense forFortnite. Players do engage with them across multiple other games and enjoy the additional uniqueness and personality it allows them in-game. On the other hand, it’s rather distracting and draws attention away fromFortnite’s bigger priority, which is skins. Epic wants players to identify by theirFortniteskins, driving them to buy more. That said, anything’s possible.
If nameplates have a chance of being added toFortnite, ZRKGlitcher’s concept video is a great message from the community in that direction.Epic does listen to player feedback, so perhaps the development team will feel as inspired as ZRKGlitcher and work toward adding nameplates sooner or later.
