Summary

Fortnitefans have expressed their disappointment in a new J Balvin Icons skin that simply uses an older skin’s design and recolors it. Recolored skins inFortniteare usually offered as optional styles, but the new one is a separate purchase and costs 1,500 V-Bucks.

The new skin is part ofFortnite’s Coachella collaborationthat brings a new look to Fortnite Festival and adds other cosmetic items like the Horizon and Cosma skins, Coachella Pulse Pickaxe, and Mirage Glimmer Guitar that are available until April 20. From April 11 to April 18, Fortnite Festival’s Main Stage featured an assortment of songs from Coachella 2024 performers like Doja Cat, Blur, and Lil Uzi Vert. While these were uncontroversial additions, the crossover’s newest one hasn’t been received so well.

Reddit user MeowsclesOnlyfans posted an image to the FortniteBR subreddit that compared the new J Balvin skin to his older skin added back in 2021. The side-by-side image makes it clear that the two skins are virtually identical other than their colors, with the new one sporting an orange, red, and white look, while the 2021 version sports a purple, blue, and pink look. Despite the striking similarities, users will need to fork over another 1,500 V-Bucks to add J Balvin’s new Inferno Skeleton outfit to their inventory. Many fans agreed with the original poster that the new skin should have been added as a style for the older J Balvin outfit, while others were not particularly surprised at Epic’s decision.

J Balvin’s newFortniteskincan be purchased individually or as part of a 1,800 V-Buck bundle that includes the Zappy Go Backy back bling and Mi Gente jamtrack. Both the bundle and the standalone offer come with a LEGO style for the J Balvin skin, as well. These items will remain inFortnite’s shop until April 22.

It seems the game’s next Icons may have been revealed afterFortnite’s 2024 roadmap possibly leaked. The roadmap mentioned that Billie Eilish, Metallica, Karol G, and Snoop Dogg would come to Fortnite Festival later this year. Interestingly, the leak also stated that Fortnite OG will get a second chapter, Marvel will return in August, and the next season will be apocalyptic-themed.
