A new gameplay video for the upcomingFire Emblem Engagefeatures one of the protagonists from an older entry, princess Celica. The latest mainline entry in the franchise was unveiled last month with a brand-new trailer. It gave fans several details about the game, including the new characters, the Emblem ring mechanic, as well as therelease date forFire Emblem Engage. It also showed off how past protagonists from the franchise would be integrated into the game, such as Marth, Sigurd, and Celica.

Celica is a past hero from the franchise, being the deuteragonist alongside her closest friend Alm inFire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, a remake ofFire Emblem Gaiden. In her home game, Celica is a magic-focused character who can use a variety of powerful spells as opposed to Alm, who is a sword fighter. This is carried over into her other appearances in games likeFire Emblem Heroes, where she is a spellcaster unit with some exceptions. This class of hers is retained for the gameplay ofFire Emblem Engage.

In the initial trailer for this game, Celica is paired withFire Emblem Engage’s Celine, another spellcaster and princess of the neighboring Kingdom Firene. When Celica’s Emblem ring is equipped for another character, she provides a boost in the magic stat. This is demonstrated in a recent gameplay video that features both Celica and Celine, who casts a powered-up fire spell against one of the player’s enemies.

In the aforementioned reveal trailer, Celine can also combine with Celica, much likeEngage’s protagonist Alear. Combining her powers together with Celica grants Celine access to the powerful Ragnarok spell, which alsooriginated fromFire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. Another video clip shows Celica speaking with the female version of Alear in a support conversation, marking that mechanic’s return as well. Alear asks for Celica’s hand in defending the peace, which Celica readily accepts.

WithFire Emblem Engage’s focus on past heroes mixed with new characters, it’s natural all corners of the franchise are given a spotlight. Fans are already seeing the aforementioned Marth, Sigurd, and Celica as equippable emblems, with murals and other details in the game’s first trailer hinting at other additional characters. Some are hoping fan-favorite characters such as Dimitri, Soren, and Hector could make an appearance as well. There are still four months before the game’s release, so fans should expect more details to be revealed as time goes on.

Fire Emblem Engageis coming to the Nintendo Switch on May 15, 2025.
