Fairy Tailwrapped up in 2019 in controversial fashion, having done a couple of things that did not sit well with fans. Some felt robbed by the heightened emotional moments which ended up being wasted with later reveals.
However,Fairy Tailis not by any means a bad show, and if it has anything going for it, it’s the cast of strong characters.Fairy Tailhas a long list of ridiculously overpowered characters that really excite the average fan’s imagination.With a new season startingsoon, it is worth a look at thestrongest characters in the story as things stand. It should be noted that dead characters will not be included, and characters that show up later in the arc will also not be added.
10Faris
The Suspicious Girl Turns Out To Be Super Strong
Farisis the White Wizard, a powerful character who rivalsZeref in power. She starts the show as the newest member of Fairy Tail,but Gajeel is immediately suspicious due to her knowledge of the name “Briar”.
It is later revealed that the girl, Touka, is being controlled by Faris, who is on her own personal mission. Faris is a powerful mage who can restrict the magical powers of others, and even take over their bodies.
9Laxus Dreyar
The Former Rebel Is Now A Lovable Scoundrel
Laxus Dreyaris the grandson of Makarov and is easily one of the most powerful mages in the Fairy Tail guild. He was first introduced early in theseries as an antagonistwho wanted to overthrow his grandfather and make Fairy Tail a place where weaklings couldn’t survive.
He has since changed his thinking, and now is a part of the guild through and through. Laxus uses lightning magic, and is accompanied by the Thunder God legion, consisting of Fried, Bickslow, and Evergreen. At the beginning of the 100-Year Quest Arc, he was returning from a job and scared two of three potential members of the guild away.
8Elefseria
The Father Of Magic Guilds
One of the very first people shown in the new series wasElefseria, the one who handed out the 100-Year Quest, and the one who commissioned Natsu and his friends to help fulfill the quest requirements.
He is said to be the first guild master ever and the founder of the first-ever guild, Magia Dragon. Not someone to be trifled with, Elefseria, in a bid to defeat the dragons, learned dragon slayer magic and can even transform into a dragon himself. Fans who are only watching the anime have yet to encounter the depths of his power, but he is no slouch.
7Mirajane Strauss
Pretty Face, Devilish Powers
Mirajanewas one of the earliest S-Class mages to appear inFairy Tail,and was one of the top women in the guild, along with Erza. Mirajane’s external niceties belie a terrifying power which enables her to take over the powers of demons.
Mirajane hasn’t gone adventuring with the team in the 100-Year Quest, but she is a great source of power when called upon. She also has a tragic backstory in which she more or less lost her powers and will to fight after losing Lisanna, her sister.
6Gildarts Clive
Even With One Arm And One Leg, He Is Immense
For a long time, fans never got to seeGildarts,and only heard his name whispered in awe. When he arrived, he was all he was cracked up to be and more. Able to use an incredible form of magic called ‘Crush’,Gildarts was clearly Fairy Tail’s ace.
Coming into the new arc, Gildarts might be without an arm and a leg (he uses prosthetics), but he is still incredibly powerful. He was able to hold his own against August in the Alvarez Empire Arc, and though he didn’t win that fight by himself, he is still easily one of the most powerful characters in all of Fiore.
5Gajeel Redfox
The Iron Dragon Rivals Natsu In Strength
Gajeelwas first introduced to fans as a villain and a member of Phantom Lord with a chilling scene where he effortlessly defeated members of Shadow Gear, which consisted of Jet, Droy, and his future wife, Levy.
Gajeel’s strength as a dragon is without question, as he is able to fight toe-to-toe with Natsu, the fire dragon. He was involved in the fight against Acnologia, the Dragon King. He handed his power over to Natsu to help finish off the monster (or at least neutralize him).
4Lucy Heartfilia
Underutilized, But Still A Terrifying Character
Lucy Heartfiliais technically the protagonist ofFairy Tail,as the story more or less starts with her. She is a strange character who should be way more powerful than she actually is.
Lucy uses celestial spirit magic, which makes use of keys to form contracts with characters from the spirit world. There are several silver keys and12 gold keys— Lucy has 10 of them. She has access to some really powerful spirits, including the leader of the 12 Golden Zodiac Keys, Leo.
3Erza Scarlet
Potential Guild Master
If anyone were to go on YouTube and type ‘Erzavs …’ they’d get a plethora of results showing the ridiculous range of power this woman has. Erza is a titan in every sense of the word, and is one of the few characters who could become Fairy Tail’s guild master and no one would raise an eyebrow.
Erza finished the last arc of the show bydefeating her motherand using one hand and sword to slice through a meteor. She’s back in the new arc, ready for a new adventure with her friends.
2Gray Fullbuster
The Perfect Rival To Natsu
Grayis an ice mage who has a penchant for taking off his clothes at the slightest provocation and in any scenario. Aside from his quirky personality, Gray is incredibly powerful, and his ice magic is incredible.
He is able to take on Natsu in his demon form and survive, with Erza being the only one who could come between the two. His love/hate relationship with Natsu is a funny aspect of the show, as the two can’t stand one another, but will also fight for each other.
1Natsu Dragneel
He’s Beaten Everyone
Natsu Dragneelis the true main character ofFairy Tail,and the Salamander is able to swallow up flames and unleash them on enemies. The younger brother of Zeref, Natsu was sent 400 years into the future to helpdefeat Acnologia.
Natsu’s strength is impressive, and from the beginning of the series until now, he has been able to take down some of the most powerful villains in the entire show, including Jellal and Acnologia.
