Godfallwas once a PlayStation console exclusive, but it will be making its way to Xbox platforms through the newUltimate Edition, launching Thursday, April 7.Godfall: Ultimate Editionbundles the base game together with all the post-launch content, like theFire & Darknessexpansion, and will likely draw in plenty of new players. Both new and returningGodfallfans have a lot to look forward to come April 7, though, as the free Exalted update is releasing alongside theUltimate Edition.
Godfall’s Exalted update is a free content update that’s adding a brand-new six-player free roam activity called Spirit Realms. EachGodfallrealmhas its own version of Spirit Realms that players can unlock by beating the realm’s boss.

Game Rant is exclusively revealing new footage ofGodfall’s Spirit Realms mode in action for fans who are wondering what exactly it has in store.
What is Godfall’s Spirit Realms Mode?
While free roaming inGodfall’s Spirit Realms mode, the main objective is to kill enemies to collect souls, which can in turn be used to trigger special events to unlock Elder Souls. The Elder Souls are then used to power Elder Gates, which allow players to ascend to a boss arena.
Godfallenemieswill drop one of three kinds of souls when they’re killed in Spirit Realms: Red (Might), Blue (Spirit), or Green (Vitality). These souls are then taken to the event areas to be deposited in Soul Altars, which require at least four to start. Depositing three of the same soul in a Soul Altar will up the difficulty by applying “banes” (essentially debuffs). Red souls increase the damage players take, blue souls change how one’s banners function, and green souls make it so players recover health slower and enemies have greater defenses.
Once enough souls have been deposited,Godfallplayers will have to participate in one of three event types. In one instance, players will have to contend with waves of enemies, while another will have them killing weak enemies to remove a shield protecting a stronger foe. The third variation has players defeat 25 total enemies. Whenever an event is completed,Godfallplayers are rewarded with an Elder Soul that can be used to charge the Elder Gate found in the beginning of the area.
The power of an Elder Soul will depend on how many regular souls were deposited to trigger the event. Elder Souls of a greater magnitude will cause the eventualGodfallboss encounter to be more difficult, but also increase the rewards that players will get. After players defeat the boss, they’ll collect their loot and have the chance to do a couple more runs against tougher enemies for the chance at even greaterGodfallloot drops.
Godfall Shards of Macros Explained
The primary objective ofGodfallSpirit Realms is to collect Elder Souls and power the Elder Gate to fight the boss, but there are other things players will encounter while free roamingGodfall’s game world. When using Spirit Vision to check their surroundings, players will notice not just Soul Altars and the Elder Gates, but they’ll also see Shards of Macros marked as well.
Dumping souls into Soul Altars will hit players with banes designed to make the game more difficult in exchange for better rewards, but Shards of Macros are blue crystals that players can find in the game world that can also be activated using souls. If players dump four souls into a Shard of Macros, they’ll briefly chat with Macros and receive a boon (a buff). The type of buffGodfallplayers receive by activating a Shard of Macros will depend on what kind of souls they deposited.
Between Shards of Macros, mid-bosses that can invade players' games, and the need to collect Elder Souls, there’s going to be a lot going on inGodfall’s new Spirit Realms mode. Luckily, players can utilize the ping system that was added as part ofGodfall’s Lightbringer updateto better communicate with their teammates and keep everyone on the same page.
Godfall: Using Spirit Vision in Spirit Realms
Spirit Vision can be used to switch between the Material and Spirit planes, with some enemies exclusively in one plane or another. Players will have to switch between planes to attack these enemies, unless they utilizeGodfall’s Archon Mode, which allows them to deal damage regardless of which plane the enemy exists in.
Spirit Vision will also be helpful when it comes to navigating through the game world. Like in the base game, players will be able to use it to find secrets and hidden rewards.
Godfall Spirit Realms Will Have Matchmaking
One of the big complaints fans had aboutGodfallat launch was the lack of matchmaking. Counterplay Games listened to this feedback, eventually releasing an update toadd matchmaking toGodfall, and fans should rest assured that matchmaking will also be in Spirit Realms come launch on April 7.Godfallwill support up to six players in the mode, with the featured realm rotating every hour.
The only downside is thatGodfall’s Fire Realm is not included in matchmaking. This is because the Fire Realm was added toGodfallas part of theFire & Darknessexpansion, which isn’t available to all players. It comes withGodfall: Ultimate Edition, but those on PC or PlayStation that only have the base game don’t have it by default.
The only other thing to keep in mind is that players need theirGodfallcharacterto be at least level 50 if they hope to utilize matchmaking in Spirit Realms. Assuming the prerequisites have been fulfilled, hardcoreGodfallfans can jump into Spirit Realms for themselves once the Exalted update is released on Thursday, April 7.
Godfallis out now for PC, PS4, and PS5 with an Xbox One and Xbox Series X version launching April 7.
