The latest update forEvil Dead: The Gamehas arrived, delivering content based on theEvil Deadfilm reboot released in 2013. One ofEvil Dead: The Game’s strongest pitches to horror fans was that it would include content from across theEvil Deadfranchise. It delivered on that promise at launch but is continuing the effort now well into post-launch. The latest update focused on theEvil Deadfilm of 2013, which “re-imagined” director Sam Raimi’s original 1981 cult classic.

Content in the latestEvil Dead: The Gamepatch includes a new map selection option in Exploration Mode, two new weapons in the Syringe and Nailgun, a new mission named Weekend at Knoby’s, and a substantial number of balance changes and general fixes. For example, theNecronomiconnow has 5% increased health to make it stronger, and cars will receive damage per second during the Dark Ones and Necronomicon phases, both key changes to help Demons in the final phase of the game.

The most substantial addition toEvil Dead: The Gamein the latest patch, however, are the two new playable survivors. The new survivors areMia and David, both characters from theEvil Dead2013 film. David and Mia are brother and sister who visit a cabin possessed by a demon to try and help Mia overcome a heroin addiction, but things go seriously wrong. The two are the leading roles in theEvil Deadreimagining, so fans of the film will likely be excited to have them fully playable.

One last piece of new content included in the latest patch is thePlaguebringer demon.Evil Deadfans will recognize the Plaguebringer as the witch demon fromThe Army of Darknessfilm that leaps into the air and shouts at Ash, “We shall feast upon your souls!” She’s only featured for a minute or two, but she does leave an impression. Her servant demons are shown to be the pit demon, also fromThe Army of Darkness, and hooded skeletons for the basic unit.

There have unfortunately been some technical issues withEvil Dead: The Game’s 2013 DLC release. For the time being, it seems that theEvil Dead: The Game2013 DLC bundleis not currently live on the PlayStation storefront. It’s expected to show up starting September 9 instead. Similarly, the DLC hasn’t been unlocked for Season Pass holders on Xbox. Saber Interactive is trying to fix this ASAP.

The 2013 DLC forEvil Dead: The Game, which costs $9.99 or can be unlocked via the $29.99 season pass, is the only way to unlock Mia and David as playable characters. The rest of the content in today’s patch should be available for free. It will hopefullyreinvigorateEvil Dead: The Game’s player base, which hasn’t retained gamers to a degree that many hoped.

Evil Dead: The Gameis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
