Summary
Soulslike games have risen tremendously in popularity over the last decade, with hits like theDark Soulsseries andElden Ringsetting standards for the genre. However, never has there been a Soulslike quite likeindie developer Aggro Crab’s. This upcoming underwater adventure,Another Crab’s Treasure, is a unique take on the Soulslike formula that puts players into the shoes (or claws) of Kril, a hermit crab on a journey to reclaim his most prized shell.
Another Crab’s Treasureis a Soulslike based on crabs— specifically, a hermit crab who has lost his shell. As such, players can expect to find a variety of useful and fashionable shells for Kril as they progress through the game. Although not every shell has been revealed thus far, several of them have already appeared in the announcement trailer and its 2022 demo.

Every Shell Revealed for Another Crab’s Treasure So Far
While it has been confirmed that there are over 50 shells for players to find inAnother Crab’s Treasure, only six shells have been shown off so far. Additionally, although the shells may appear at first to be purely cosmetic, the game’s Steam page explains that the shells will allow players to “withstand attacks from enemies many times your size,” and each shell has been confirmed to give Kril a unique skill called a “Shell Spell.”
Some shell names have not been confirmed and are currently based solely on their appearance.
Normal Shell
Kril’s normal shell is based on a typical seashell, and it may very well be the shell Kril loses and must regain possession of. In light of that, players may lose this shell early on, but perhaps the game will give them some time with it in a tutorial of sorts before it is taken away.
Soda Can Shell
Kril’s Soda Can shell takes on the appearance of a soda or seltzer can, playing intoAnother Crab’s Treasure’s themes of pollution and one person’s trash being “another crab’s treasure.” It’s difficult to imagine the Soda Can shell being sturdy enough to protect Kril from any real danger, as soda cans aren’t known for being strong. However, this particular shell has been confirmed to give Kril a Shell Spell called “Depressurize.”
Coffee Mug Shell
Kril’s Coffee Mug shell is a bit more robust than the Soda Can shell, which could benefit the unassuming crab in his fight against some ofAnother Crab’s Treasure’s Soulslike boss battles. This particular shell provides Kril with the “Morning Buzz” Shell Spell.
Party Hat Shell
Kril’s Party Hat shell is covered in colorful stars and may end up being best used as a cosmetic shell more than anything else. Most party hats are, after all, made of paper, so this particular shell is unlikely to help in any big way. Still, it has been confirmed to give Kril the “Party Time” Shell Spell.
Tin Can Shell
Kril’s Tin Can shell could be seen as a cousin of the Soda Can shell, but it will undoubtedly be stronger if the game considers its real-world examples. It has also been confirmed to give Kril the “Shellshock” Shell Spell. If not, players could always opt forAnother Crab’s Treasure’s hilarious easy mode.
Water Valve Shell
Since the shells inAnother Crab’s Treasurewill offer gameplay benefits of some kind, surely the water valve shell will be one of the strongest. It appears to be made of a sturdy metal such as brass or cast iron, so it could potentially provide better defensive bonuses than other shells like the party hat and the aluminum can. If nothing else, it’s another great example ofAnother Crab’s Treasure’s unashamed silliness.
Another Crab’s Treasure’s Shells Ought to Make It Full of Customization
Even ifAnother Crab’s Treasuredoesn’t offer much else in the way of gameplay variety between shells after all, that has never been an issue when it comes to FromSoftware Soulslikes and their outfits. The idea of ‘fashion souls’ is still very much an admirable trait of such titles, and being able to swap out shells for new aesthetics could carry it a long way.
Another Crab’s Treasurereleases on May 17, 2025, for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Steam, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Xbox One.
