Summary
The augmented reality mobile video gamePokemon GOhas been going strong since its release in 2016, and a lot of its content has been added to the game in updates. This includes new Pokemon, gameplay mechanics, and, of course, items. With each new generation comes brand-new items that will help players level up their Pokemon, catch new Pokemon, and evolve the ones they already have.
Some of these items are required to evolve specific Pokemon. While most Pokemon evolve through just Candy, some need a little something extra. Special evolutions include the King’s Rock, the Metal Coat, and the Unova Stone. Designed to help several fifth generation Pokemon evolve, here’s a rundown on the Pokemon that need this rare item.

Updated June 16, 2025, by Blaise Santi: The mainline Pokemon series has taken a huge step back from prioritizing new Pokemon that evolve through evolutionary stones. For example, only a handful of fifth generation Pokemon in the main franchise evolve through evolutionary stones, which means that the Unova Stone in Pokemon GO has only seven Pokemon that it works on. Nevertheless, there’s a lot to keep in mind about these specific Pokemon, which originated in Pokemon Black & White, and this update aims to provide you with what you need to know.
Where To Get Unova Stones
It may come as a surprise to those who have only playedPokemon GO, but Unova Stones don’t exist in the mainline series. In titles likePokemon Black & WhiteorScarlet & Violet, Pokemon evolve using a variety of stones, such as the Leaf Stone, Thunder Stone, Moon Stone, and Dusk Stone. However, to evolve certain gen 5 Pokemon, players will need to find Unova Stones from spinning PokeStops.
There are two ways in whichplayers can easily acquire Unova Stones. One is by completing Research Breakthroughs, which is achieved by doing Field Research, but players will also have a chance of getting Sinnoh Stones, Remote Raid Passes, or Rare Candies through this reward system. The other way to get Unova Stones is by defeating Team Rocket Leaders, including Giovanni, in missions.

Solar Beam, Grass Knot, Crunch
Pokedex Entry
Ill-tempered, it fights by swinging its barbed tail around wildly. The leaf growing on its head is very bitter.
Pansage is a Grass-type Pokemon that evolves into Simisage with a Unova Stone after eating 100 Candy. In the mainline series, Pansage requires a Leaf Stone, which also evolves Eevee into Leafeon and Gloom into Vileplume. InPokemon GO, its Quick moves are Bite (Dark) and Vine Whip (Grass), and its Charge moves are Solar Beam (Grass), Grass Knot (Grass), and Crunch.

At Level 50, it has a Max CP of 2,657, an Attack of 206, a Defense of 133, and a Stamina of 181.Pokemon GOplayers shouldn’t even bother trying to use Simisage in the Great League, the Ultra League, or the Master League, because it will fail miserably, andthere are far better Grass-type to acquirein the mobile game.
Surf, Hydro Pump, Crunch
It prefers places with clean water. When its tuft runs low, it replenishes it by siphoning up water with its tail.
Panpour is a Water-type Pokemon that evolves into Simipour with a Unova Stone after consuming 100 Candy, while its mainline variant uses a Water Stone, the same evolutionary stone that turns Staryu into Starmie. Both Simipour’s Quick Moves and Charged Moves utilize Water and Dark-type moves, like Water Gun, Hydro Pump, and Crunch.

At Level 50, it has a Max CP of 2,657, an Attack of 206, a Defense of 133, and a Stamina of 181, just like Simisage. Also just like Simisage,Simipour will struggle to surviveeven one turn in the Great League, the Ultra League, and the Master League.
Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Crunch
When it gets excited, embers rise from its head and tail, and it gets hot. For some reason, it loves sweets.
The Fire Stone is used in the mainline series to evolve Vulpix into Ninetales and Growlithe into Arcanine, but inPokemon GO, the Fire-type Pansear evolves into Simisear with a Unova Stone after swallowing 100 Candy. Like Simipour and Simisage, its Quick moves are Bite (Dark) and Fire Spin (Fire). Simisear’s Charge moves are Flamethrower (Fire), Fire Blast (Fire), and Crunch (Dark).

At Level 50, it has a Max CP of 2,657, an Attack of 206, a Defense of 133, and a Stamina of 181. These are the same exact stats as Simisage and Simipour. Therefore, just like Simisear’s siblings, it is an absolute dumpster fire in the Great League, the Ultra League, and the Master League. Thankfully, there aremuch better Fire-types at players' disposal, like Charizard.
Energy Ball, Shadow Ball, Overheat, Flame Charge, Poltergeist, Frustration, Return
The spirits burned up in its ominous flame lose their way and wander this world forever.
Lampent is a Ghost/Fire-type Pokemon that evolves into Chandelure with a Unova Stone and 100 Candy. In the mainline games, Lampent requires a Dusk Stone, which also evolves Murkrow into Honchkrow. Its Quick moves are Hex (Ghost), Fire Spin (Fire), and Incinerate (Fire), and its Charge moves are Shadow Ball (Ghost), Overheat (Fire), Energy Ball (Grass), and Flame Charge (Fire).

At Level 50, it has a Max CP of 3,695, an Attack of 271, a Defense of 182, and a Stamina of 155. Chandelure has an awesome pool of moves and hits pretty hard, too. While there are better options when it comes to Pokemon with Ghost and Fire typing, it does okay in the Great League, the Ultra League, and the Master League. Lampent itself evolves from Litwick with 25 Candy.
Hyper Beam, Thunderbolt, Aqua Tail
The oil that seeps from its body is really smooth. For people troubled by bad skin, this oil is an effective treatment.
Minccino is a Normal-typethat evolves into Cinccino with a Shiny Stone in the mainline games, the same evolutionary stone that evolves Togetic into Togekiss and Roselia into Roserade, but inPokemon GO, it requires a Unova Stone and 50 Candy. Its Quick moves are Pound (Normal) and Charm (Fairy), and its Charge moves are Hyper Beam (Normal), Aqua Tail (Water), and Thunderbolt (Electric).

At Level 50, it has a Max CP of 2,535, an Attack of 198, a Defense of 130, and a Stamina of 181. When it comes to competing in the Great League, Ultra League, and Master League, Cinccino might not be the best pick, butit’s cute enough to make for a great partner Pokemon.
Crunch, Thunderbolt, Acid Spray, Dragon Claw, Liquidation
They crawl out of the ocean using their arms. They will attack prey on shore and immediately drag it into the ocean.
Eelektrik is an Electric-type that evolves into Eelektross with a Unova Stone and 100 Candy. The Thunder Stone, which evolves Eelektrik in the mainline games, is also used to turn Pikachu into Raichu. Its Quick moves are Spark (Electric) and Acid (Poison), and its Charge moves are Thunderbolt (Electric), Dragon Claw (Dragon), Crunch (Dark), and Acid Spray (Poison).

At Level 50, it has a Max CP of 3,089, an Attack of 217, a Defense of 152, and a Stamina of 198, and in the Great League, Eelektross actually does well. There are certainly better Electric-type Pokemonout there that have another type to complement them, too. As for the Ultra League and Master League, there are better options. To get Eelektrik, the trainer must evolve Tynamo with 25 Candy.
Future Sight, Dazzling Gleam, Psyshock
The dream mist coming from its forehead changes into many different colors depending on the dream that was eaten.
Munna is a Psychic-type Pokemon that evolves into Musharna with a Unova Stone in addition to 50 Candy. In the mainline games, it uses a Moon Stone, an item that also evolves Clefairy into Clefable and Jigglypuff into Wigglytuff. Its Quick moves are Zen Headbutt (Psychic) and Charge Beam (Electric), and its Charge moves are Psyshock (Psychic), Dazzling Gleam (Fairy), and Future Sight (Psychic).

At Level 50, it has a Max CP of 3,079, an Attack of 183, a Defense of 166, and a Stamina of 253. While it may seem like Musharna has a shot in the big leagues, it does not compare tothe best Psychic-types inPokemon GO, such as Mewtwo or Metagross. Musharna will crumble in the Great League, collapse in the Ultra League, and combust in the Master League.
