Summary

Rabbit and Bear Studios has released a roadmap forEiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, promising DLC packs that will expand the stories of some of the game’s characters.Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroesfeatures 120 recruitable characters, three of whom will receive stories of their own later this year.

A spiritual successor to theSuikodenRPGseries that was made by many of the same creators,Hundred Heroestakes a similar approach in hosting a huge roster of characters and assembling them at a headquarters to fight a defensive war against an expanding empire. Of the120 characters that can be recruited inHundred Heroes, 71 are playable in six-member turn-based RPG battles, while all can join in the large-scale army battles and serve various roles around the headquarters.

The three characters scheduled to receive their own DLC expansions are runebarrows guardian Marisa, imperial turncoat Lt. Seign Kesling, and undead wizard Markus. The post indicates that the stories for Marisa, Seign, and Marcus will arrive sometime in August, September, and October, respectively, which should provide more in-depth endgame content thanrunning characters through endless mode. However, as there has been no mention of the DLC stories on the game’s official western social media accounts, it’s unclear whether these windows will hold true for a global audience or will be limited to Japan.

Seign and Marisa already play large roles in the main story and are the only characters other than protagonist Nowa that players are able to directly take control of during specific sections of the game, with Seign as anearly character inHundred Heroesand Marisa showing up not long afterward. Markus doesn’t pop up until late inHundred Heroes' story, but a subplot surrounding him and Marisa taking down another lich serves as the penultimate chapter in the game and hints at a deeper backstory of best friends torn apart in a competition for love. These stories could serve as an epilogue for the three characters — as the game gives a brief synopsis of what each recruited character intends to do after the war just before the credits roll — or they could dive deeper into their backstories.

While the roadmap includes a few other add-on items on note, all of them are already available for purchase and download. These include the Pioneer Pack, which adds a rune and new flag for the castle headquarters; the HQ Makeover Pack, which allows changing the castle’s color scheme, and the Hope of the Alliance DLC, which introduces a Nowa-themed haniwa statue. There is no price listed for any of the three DLC story add-ons, but anyone who donated to theEiyuden ChronicleKickstarter campaignwill be receiving them at no cost.

WHERE TO PLAY

Our story begins in one corner of Allraan, a tapestry of nations with diverse cultures and values. By dint of sword, and by way of magical objects known as “rune-lenses,” the land’s history has been shaped by the alliances and aggressions of the humans, beastmen, elves, and desert people who live there. The Galdean Empire has edged out other nations and discovered a technology that amplifies the rune-lenses’ magic. Now, the Empire is scouring the continent for an artifact that will expand their power even further. It is on one such expedition that Seign Kesling, a young and gifted imperial officer, and Nowa, a boy from a remote village, meet each other and become friends. However, a twist of fate will soon drag them into the fires of war, and force them both to reexamine everything they believe to be right and true.
