Dunedirector Denis Villeneuve has said thatBatmanis the only comic book character that he can relate to, which is why he would be the only superhero he would do a film for. The world of comic books has a wide variety of heroes, so it’s very interesting that the sci-fi director namedBatmanas the sole pick.

Batmanis one of the few heroes who can fight without superpowers and still hold his own against the heavyweights of the DC universe.Batman has gone toe-to-toewith many of DC’s strongest characters such as Superman, The Flash, Darkseid, and Deathstroke. Batman has to consistently work out to have his physical prowess and tactical mindset. All of these are what make it possible for him to stand a chance against any of the superpowered beings in DC.

Batman has to overcome his physical limitations in order to hold his own, which makes him a character whom most people would find more relatable than someone with superpowers. Despite that, Batman has often found a way to win most if not all of his fights. During an interview with Josh Horowitz for the Happy Sad Confused Podcast, Villeneuve was asked about rumors claiming he had been approached by Warner Bros. to take on aBatmanfilm. While Villeneuve admitted that he may have a bad memory, he does not recall being asked about potentially directing aBatmanfilm, as as he has been busy withDunefor the past few years.

The sci-fi directorpointed to the Arkham Asylum Batmanstories as being a big reason for his appreciation of the Caped Crusader. The Arkham Asylum story is something very dark that many point to as one of Batman’s worse nights ever. There was a video game series based on the storyline, which makes sense because it also ranks as one of the caped crusader’s darkest and most intense tales.

Duneis set to be something iconicfor cinema. The movie will have two parts in total in order to properly adapt the novel of the same name. The cast is an ensemble that will attract many viewers, which helps because it’s a relatively unknown property.

If Villeneuve isn’t busy directing the next installments inDune, then hopefully fans will get to see his talent orchestrate a live-actionBatmanfilm one day. Right now,Matt Reeves is the person DC choseto direct the next live-actionBatmanfilm, but there’s always room for more talent to step up into the role.

The Batmanwill be in theaters on March 4th, 2022.
