Dread Hungeris one of the most interesting products to stem from the hype generated by the now-iconic Indie Survival game, Among Us. The Dread Hunger Team took the foundation crafted by Innersloth, in which players attempt to sabotage a survival effort, and ran with it. The result was a 3D trek through harsh ice-filled waters, as a crew of players attempts to break through an imposing wall of snowpack and sail to freedom.

Unfortunately for them, a few crew members on board their vessel are not what they seem and instead plead loyalty to theDread Hunger, a ravenous entity that uses its minions to obtain fresh food. Each “round” will see players battling on opposing sides, with the Thralls gaining access to some pretty unique sabotaging abilities that can be used to strand the survivors and doom them to a cruel fate. Thralls can even upgrade their abilities by building specialized items called Totems. Here’s a look at how Thralls can build Totems and exactly what they’re used for.
What Do Totems Do?
Simply put, Totemswill help Thralls power up their three spells, giving them access to longer-lasting abilitiesand more punishing “attacks.” Totems have a stacking ability, so Thralls will definitely want to attempt to place as many Totems as possible while attempting to eliminate the rest of the surviving crew. It’s important to note that Totems do not work “instantly” and instead charge up a Thrall’s abilities over time. Players will know if an ability is “charged up” by holding a Bone Charm in one of their hands. A wheel icon will show up near the bottom right that showcases multiple “spikes” on it. Each one of these spikes will represent a level of charge. Players can increase the rate at which levels are gained and spells are charged by placing multiple Totems.
Here’s a look at what Totems are capable of doing for each spell in a player’s arsenal:

Thankfully, building Totems in Dread Hunger is actually pretty straightforward. To construct a Totem, players will need to get their hands on the proper materials. It takes 1 x Bone and 3 x Wood to build 1 x Totem. Once players have collected the materials, they can access the Totem in their build wheel.
Players can easily find Wood by exploring the environment or breaking down wooden items like Wood Crates or Grave Markers. Bones are a bit trickier but still shouldn’t be much of an issue to obtain. They can be found on deceased crew mates or snagged from Skeletons, which are found buried beneath the ground and must be un-earthed with a Shovel.

Tips For Using Totems
Totems can really help swing the fight in the favor of a Thrall by giving them stronger Spells that will go a long way in sabotaging the survival effort of any players looking to sail to freedom. Though it is important to note that Totems can be dismantled by other players, so Thralls should avoid putting them in high-traffic areas or places where survivors may be able to easily spot them. These Totems will also emit a “whisper” that can alert survivors to their presence. Because of this, Thrall players should be careful in their placement and hide them well.
Stacking multiple Totems can be helpful in decreasing the amount of time it takes for a Spell to charge a level. For example, one Totem will see a Level 3 bonus proc at approximately 10 minutes and 33 seconds. This charge time drops all the way to 3 minutes and 45 seconds with four Totems placed.
