Given the name and subject matter, it should come as no surprise that the upcomingDragon Ball Z: Kakarotwill feature the titular Dragon Balls in some form. What that form will be has been one ofthe unanswered questions many have had regardingDBZ: Kakarot, but the latest report offers our first glimpse at how the Dragon Balls will affect gameplay.

Coming in two months’ time, the open-world action-RPG will offer fans a chance to dive into one of the most thorough re-tellings of theDragon Ball Zsaga to date, covering all the greatest moments of Goku and co.’s story from the first battle with Raditz all the way to the Majin Buu arc, in addition to anime filler content andnew original content to fleshDBZ: Kakarotout further. AstuteDBZfans will note that that shouldn’t leave very many opportunities to utilize the Dragon Balls, since they don’t factor into the story all that often, butKakarotwill reportedly find a way around this.

The latest issue of popular Japanese magazine V-Jump, as reported by Apple Ken on YouTube, claims thatDBZ: Kakarotwill, likepreviousDragon Ballgames, enable players to collect the Dragon Balls and use them to summon Shenron the Eternal Dragon and ask for a wish. In this game’s case, players will be able to use their wishes to fight enemies that have already been defeated in the game’s story.

Aside from letting them take on their favorite bosses, like Frieza and Cell, once again, these rematches will enable players to earn fresh experience and power-ups. What’s more, players will apparently be able to tackle these battles as any ofDBZ: Kakarot’s playable characters, which should lead to some fun non-canon match-ups like fighting Frieza on Namik as Majin Vegeta, or facing Cell as adult Gohan instead of his teen self. Apple Ken also notes that there might also be other types of wishes that players can ask for besides redoing boss-fights, but they didn’t specify what they could be.

Another thing Apple Ken doesn’t specify is how players will collect Dragon Balls inDragon Ball Z: Kakarot, but being as in theDBZlore the Balls always fly off to random locations after Shenron is summoned, it’s safe to assume that players will be able to find them throughout the game’s open world.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarotwill be released on June 19, 2025 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
