Summary

Dragon Agefans watching the official reveal ofDragon Age: The Veilguardmight have uncovered an important connection between two major in-game characters, Rook and Solas. The connection could hint at dramatic developments in the story ofDragon Age: The Veilguard.

After a long and protracted development, publisher EA and developer BioWare have finally revealed the nextDragon Agegame to the world. In fact, it’s taken long enough that the game went through a full title change fromDragon Age: DreadwolftoDragon Age: The Veilguard. The story will pick up on major reveals from 2014’sDragon Age: Inquisitionand charges players with combating a force of rampaging Elven gods.

And players paying close attention to the reveal might’ve just noticed a potentially consequential connection between theDragon Age: Inquisition’s Elven mage Solasand Rook, a new character. Twitter user banalnadas highlighted an uncanny similarity between the official art of Rook inDragon Age: The Veilguardand earlier art of Solas seen in teasers forDragon Age: Dreadwolf.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Art Potentially Reveals Rook and Solas Connection

The connection shown off by banalnadas is small but potentially meaningful, centered on the dagger shown in Rook’s hand in the key art forDragon Age: The Veilguard. Rook is the new game’s main player character, and alongside them in the key art are themain companions ofDragon Age: The Veilguard. Like the protagonists inDragon Age: InquisitionandDragon Age: Origins, Rook will be customizable, and as such, they’re shown in the art wearing a full face mask and hood, hiding their gender and species. However, in their hand is a strange dagger with a luminous blue-green blade and a handle with a large ring on the pommel.

A strikingly similar dagger is seen in a shot of Solas in the officialDragon Age: Dreadwolfcinematic reveal trailer from late 2022. That trailer reiterates one of the greatest reveals fromDragon Age: Inquisition.Solas is a former Elven god known as the Dread Wolfand is behind one of the most consequential events inDragon Agehistory. The shot is brief, but shows Solas (then known as Fen’harel) defeating the other Elven gods by creating the Veil, the mystic mechanism that separates the mundane world from The Fade, the source of all magic in theDragon Ageuniverse. Solas uses a dagger with a sharp double-edged pointed blade and a telltale ring on the pommel to conduct the ritual.

If the appearance of the dagger isn’t purely a coincidence, it could hint at a major narrative connection between Solas and Rook. Fans are already speculating, with some theories suggesting that Rook will somehow acquire the dagger from Solas, or that Rook is actually Solas himself in some way, a reveal that would be on-brand for the Elven god of lies and trickery. Whatever happens, it will likely be explained whenDragon Age: The Veilguardreleases.
