After playing severalApex Legendstrios matches during a May 24 YouTube broadcast, Dr Disrespect pulled up trailers from the recent PlayStation games showcase, including theMarathonone. Pointing to the lack of gameplay and vague informationfrom Bungie aboutMarathon, Dr Disrespect complimented the studio for listing merchandise for the game just in time for the debut of the game’s trailer. Not saying much during theMarathontrailer beyond “hold on now” and “let me see it,” Dr Disrespect then pulled up the statement from Bungie detailing what players can expect, and Dr Disrespect praised it by saying, “we need large-scale multiplayer games.”
Dr Disrespect has hinted at some aspects of the Midnight Society’sDeadrop, which is also an extraction shooter. Remaining mostly skeptical ofMarathonother than noting some “opportunities,” Dr Disrespect confirmed that he’s looking for triple-A multiplayer experiences and hinted thatMarathoncould be a contender. With someexperience in theHalofranchise, Bungie hasn’t eluded Dr Disrespect throughout his career, but the two-time champion barely ever delved intoDestiny 2on his channel which may bode well forMarathon’s player count if he decides to stream the extraction shooter.
There have been several occasions in which Dr Disrespect has mentioned on livestreams how stale multiplayer gaming is getting in his opinion, and it’s one of the reasons he starteddeveloping a game with Midnight Societyand may be inspired to tryMarathon. Although it’s currently unclear whenMarathonwill release, it’s the first title from Bungie since being acquired by Sony which may suggest that it has significant support backing its development.
Marathonis currently in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
