Doctor Strange 2brough back Anson Mount as Black Bolt. However, the actor provided an uncertain update on the character’s future in the MCU.
Doctor Strangein the Multiverse of Madnessbrought plenty of characters into the MCU that have either been outside of Disney’s ownership or not canon to the rest of the MCU. The film brought back Patrick Stewart as Professor X from Fox’sX-Menfranchise, Anson Mount as Black Bolt from ABC’s canceledInhumansTV series, Hayley Atwell as Captain Carter, and Lashana Lynch as Maria Rambeau, who became that universe’s Captain Marvel. The film alsointroduced John Krasinski as Mr. Fantasticbefore Wanda killed off each of these characters.

In an interview withRadio TimesaboutStar Trek: Strange New Worlds, Mount was asked if he’s returning to the MCU as Black Bolt. Mount responded, “If the answer was yes I wouldn’t be able to tell you - but the answer is no, so I can. I’ve had some informal conversations with the powers [at] Marvel and it’s a conversation, but they’ve got their current phase that they need to do.” Mount continued, “I don’t know, we’ll see. I would love to jump back into the cowl and do it again. I love Black Bolt as a character”
Although Mount wants to suit up as Black Bolt again, there are seemingly no official plans to make that happen. With there being “informal conversations," it seems unlikely that fans will get to see Mount as Black Bolt again, and if they do, it won’t be until Marvel Studios is done with their current phase. This may be disappointing for Black Bolt and The Inhumans fans as they struggle with a live-action adaptation. It was a great start to see Black Bolt inDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnessand introduce the character to a broader audience and into the MCU. However, the character was killed off quicker thanThe InhumansTV series got canceled.
None of the current slate of MCU projects quite make sense for any of the Inhumans to appear in, at least until therecently delayedAvengers: The Kang Dynastyreleases in 2026as a part of phase 6 of the MCU. However, it is probably more likely that they will appear inAvengers: Secret Warsin 2027. Additionally, there is an untitled Marvel Studios project set for 2025, but it seems unlikely that it will beThe Inhumans. If Marvel Studios does decide to bring back Anson Mount to play Black Bolt, fans may have to wait a while.
