TheDisney Lorcanatrading card game may not be available to the public yet, but that hasn’t stopped certain rare cards from already selling for hundreds of dollars online. Anticipation forLorcana’s official release on August 18 is at a peak, but a fewDisneyfans at this past weekend’s Gen Con 2023 event had the opportunity to buy cards early. Those cards have begun filtering online and are selling well. The rarestLorcanacards, in particular, are exceptionally high in demand.
Disney andLorcanapublisher Ravensburger decided to make last weekend’s Gen Con 2023 a special preview event for the TCG. Not only did the event hostLorcana’s first Starter Deck tournament, but boxes ofDisney Lorcana: The First ChapterBooster Packs, Starter Decks, and accessories including sleeve packs and play mats were fully on sale. Further, prior to the event Disney announced thatLorcanafeatured a previously unknown card rarity named Enchanted, a rarity seemingly designed to drive values for certain cards through the roof.

It’s now been a week since Gen Con 2023 and expectations that Enchanted-rarity cards would sell for high prices are already being met. EnchantedLorcanacards on eBay are selling for hundreds of dollars. An Enchanted Belle recently sold for $490. An Aladdin and Genie pair of Enchanted cards sold for $495.Aurora ofSleeping Beauty’s Enchanted cardsold for $1,050, but even that isn’t the highest-selling Enchanted card yet. An Enchanted Mickey Mouse sold for $3,000, a Tinker Bell sold for $4,000, and a Simba sold for a shocking $5,000.
It isn’t known at this time just how rare Enchanted cards will bewhenLorcanafully launches. The current belief is that they’re rare enough that even buying a box of Booster Packs, which includes 12 packs in total, may not guarantee the inclusion of even a single Enchanted card. That could mean prices will only increase whenLorcanalaunches. It could be incorrect, however, and prices will go down from here.
The allure of rare and valuable cards is certain to draw card collectors fromPokemonandMagic: The GatheringtoLorcana. Enchanted-rarity cards aren’t even the first wave ofLorcanacard purchases lighting up resellers like eBay. Disney released a set ofLorcanapromo cards during D23 2022. These cards, sold individually or as a set, have been listed and sold for thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars. Disney and Ravensburger clearly know how to capitalize on excitement for very rare cards.
Lorcanawill officially launch with six different card rarities. The first five, Common, Uncommon, Rare, Super Rare, and Legendary, make up the standard cards inLorcana’s first set,The First Chapter. There are 204 of these cards in total. The sixth rarity, Enchanted, is treated as a series of secret cards beyond the set. There are 12 in total, numbering 205 through 216, and have new artwork and a foil treatment but are otherwise copies of cards from the base set. Casual collectors can rest easy knowing they don’t need to collect Enchanted cards to complete their sets. AsecondLorcanasethas already been announced.
