InDisney Dreamlight Valley, a captivating realm is filled with a village where numerous cherished Disney characters reside. Although friendship stands as a cornerstone value in the valley, not all residents adhere strictly to this ideal. Expectedly, the introduction of Disney villains to this community can strain relations.
The Beast is discovering this first-hand, as his treasured Belle has had an unsettling encounter with Mother Gothel fromTangled, who is widely considered to be amongthe most malevolent Disney characters. This guide will walk players through the quest"The Crown or the Claw"as they assist The Beast in handling this problematic situation inDisney Dreamlight Valley.

How to Start the Quest “The Crown or the Claw”
TheDisney Dreamlight Valleyquest"The Crown or the Claw"is unlocked upon reachingFriendship Level 7withThe Beastand after completing his Level 4 Friendship Quest, “Be Our Friend.” The player can increase their friendship with The Beast by speaking with him, giving him gifts,serving him dishes in Remy’s Restaurant, having him accompany the player while they complete tasks with his assigned role, and by completing his previous quests.
How to Complete the Quest “The Crown or the Claw”
To start this quest, the player needs to speak to The Beast, finding out that he’s angry after hearing about seemingly derogatory remarks Mother Gothel made to Belle. The player decides to accompany The Beast to confront Mother Gothel about her behavior.
Witness their uncomfortable encounter, where Gothel belittles the Beast and asserts that Belle’s affection for him isn’t reciprocated. After the conversation, speak with The Beast, who - upset that taking strong measures against Gothel is not on the agenda - storms off abruptly.
Speak to Mother Gothel
The quest requires the player to give The Beast some space, so - during this time - they should head toMother Gothelto get her side of the story. Turns out, the subject of their talk was literature, and Gothel insulted Belle’s book choices, calling them provincial and pedestrian. The player can return to The Beast and proceed in the questonly after one real-world hourhas passed. The player will discover that he’s calmed down slightly, but not before losing his temper and causing considerable damage inside his castle.
Repair The Beast’s Broken Furniture
The player assures The Beast that the damages can be repaired and should proceed into Beast’s Castle and collect the five piles of wood found near the entrance. The player then needs to collect materials to craft aRepaired Regal Plush CouchandRepaired Regal Low Table.
Obtained in the previous step of the quest.
6 Hardwood
Hardwood can be foraged in the Forest of Valor, Frosted Heights, Glade of Trust, and Sunlit Plateau biomes.
20 Softwood
Softwood can be foraged in the Forest of Valor, Glade of Trust, Peaceful Meadow, and Plaza biomes.
10 Dry Wood
Dry Wood can be foraged in Forgotten Lands, Frosted Heights, and Sunlit Plateau.
The recipes for each of these items can be found in the Furniture category at the very top, indicated by an icon featuring The Beast’s portrait. Note that after crafting the first item, it may be necessary to scroll through the Furniture menu to locate the second recipe.
Visit Merlin For Advice
Return to Beast’s Castle and hand over the repaired furniture. He thanks the player and lets them know that he spoke with Belle, assuring her that Gothel should not be listened to. However, he still wishes to hold Mother Gothel accountable for her words. Considering the Valley is a non-violent zone, the player decides to consult Merlin for a more reasonable means of resolution.
Craft the Mirror of True Seeing
Merlin suggests craftingThe Mirror of True Seeing, an enchanted device that will show the person who looks into it a vision of their true self. To craft the Mirror of True Seeing, collect the following items and head to any crafting station, where the recipe can be found in the Furniture tab:
Glass is crafted using5 Sandand1 Coal Oreeach.
5 Dream Shards
Dream Shardscan be obtained by removing Night Thorns, digging sparkling holes, and by feeding critters.
Place the Mirror and Speak with Mother Gothel
Once the Mirror of True Seeing has been crafted, travel to the center of theGlade of Trustand place the mirrornear the Giant Willow tree, Mother Gothel’s home, in the swamp. Locate Mother Gothel and inform her that you have delivered a friendship gift from The Beast.
After a brief absence to investigate, she returns. At this point, the player will notice her demeanor has changed upon speaking with her. She is very upset about the horrible gift which clearly showed her true self in the mirror, and she did not like what she saw. Mother Gothel agrees to leave Belle alone if the player removes the mirror. The player does not actually have to retrieve the mirror from outside of her home, but they might as well so they can place this piece of decorative decor elsewhere.
Inform The Beast that the plan was successful and Mother Gothel has promised to no longer bother Belle. This successfully concludes the quest"The Crown or the Claw"inDisney Dreamlight Valley.
