UPDATE:Bungie will be rolling backDestiny 2accounts to the state they were in at 8:30 a.m. PST, prior to Hotfix 2.7.1.1. Maintenance is expected to conclude at 7 p.m. PST. Original story follows:

Bungie releasedDestiny 2hotfix 2.7.1.1 to all platforms earlier today. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear as though theDestiny 2update has gone as planned, as the popular looter-shooter game has been brought down for emergency maintenance.

It was clear thatDestiny 2console players were having difficulty with the update as soon as it was released. Bungie initially suggested that console players restart their game and try downloading the update. Not long after that, the studio confirmed that theDestiny 2serverswere being brought offline for emergency maintenance. And while some fans may be frustrated that theDestiny 2servers are down, it’s for a good reason.

Bungie has since explained why theDestiny 2servers are down for emergency maintenance. It appears as though the missing currencies and materials issue that plagued the game a couple of weeks ago has resurfaced.Destiny 2fans certainly don’t want to risk losing their materials or in-game money, and so while some may be annoyed that they can’t play, the emergency maintenance is for the best.

Bungie will be updatingDestiny 2players regularly on its Bungie Help Twitter page. For those wondering whatDestiny 2update 2.7.1.1 even did, it mainly addressed some technical issues like a problem with theEververse Storethat was selling things at the wrong place.

TheDestiny 2update for 01-06-2025 is also kicking off theCrimson Daysevent. For the uninitiated, theDestiny 2Crimson Days event is an annual Valentine’s Day celebration in theDestinyfranchise. The event is marked by the special Crimson Doubles game mode, which will be available inDestiny 2from now until the event concludes on February 18. However, it’s possible that Bungie may extend the duration of the event depending on how long theDestiny 2servers will be down today, though that is just speculation at this time.

HopefullyBungieis able to resolve the ongoing issues withDestiny 2since update 2.7.1.1 and restore the game to working order so fans have plenty of time to play through the Crimson Days event. We will update this post as soon as theDestiny 2servers have come back online and players are once again able to jump into the game.

Destiny 2is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
