Dead Island 2has all sorts of wondrously horrifying weapons for players to use in their Zombie-slaying adventures across Hell-A. There are weapons meant for Maiming, ones for Headhunting, Frenzy weapons that excel in Attack Speed, and even weapons that Bulldoze through groups of the undead.

But, many players are sleeping on Curveballs, as these things are exceedingly useful, especially for quicklyinflicting Status Effects/Ailmentslater on in the game. There are 13 unique Curveballs that players can collect inDead Island 2, and all of them do something entirely different from the rest, so let’s go over where each one is found in-game.
All Curveball Locations
While at first, it may seem like most of the Curveballs inDead Island 2are naturally obtained as players go through theStory Quests, as this is how theShuriken,Chem Bomb,Pipe Bomb,Electric Star, andMolotov Cocktailare obtained, that’s not entirely true. Many of the Curveballs are specifically only rewarded as prizes for completing certainSide Questsor only appear at specificTrader NPCsafter some prerequisite has been completed.
So, without further ado, let’s go over every Curveball, what each one does, and where it’s located, in the order that players are most likely to find them:

Meat Bait
Explodes onContactinto a pile of blood and meat.Luresbasic Zombies such asShamblers,Runners, andWalkers.
InBel-Air, theNPC Trader Carlosoffers this for free as soon as his shop is accessible.
Shuriken
Throws three Shurikens, with each one, onContact, dealingPhysical Damage.
After the loading screen into theHalperin Hotelregion of the map,Shurikenwill be sticking out of a car directly in front of the player, with a Zombie carcass directly below it.
Chem Bomb
AContactexplosive that immediatelyExtinguishes Flames, and inflictsTraumatizedandSoggyAilments on all Zombies in AoE.
On the way to the third floor ofHalperin Hoteltoeventually fight Becki the Bride, players will crouch underneath a tunnel of luggage before encountering a hallway with fire blocking off a portion of it.Chem Bombshould be on the ground right after the tunnel.
Pipe Bomb
Timed Triggerexplosive that deals damage to all in AoE.
At the checkpoint leading fromBeverly HillstoMonarch Studiosin an open orange case on the left.
Electric Star
Shuriken with electronics strapped onto it that dealsShock DamageonContactand inflicts theElectrifiedAilment.
After finishingMichael Anders and the Holy GrailStory Quest inMonarch Studiosand heading toBeverly Hillsfrom this exit, theElectric Starwill be stuck into the Danger Warning poster on the gate leading into theWater Treatment Plant. Alternatively, if players miss it here, it will also be bought from thesame NPC as the FlashbangCurveball for$1,500.
Molotov Cocktail
Alcohol bottle filled with fuel and a flaming rag as a ‘wick’. Shatters onContactflinging flaming fuel everywhere in AoE. DealsFire Damage and inflicts theIgnitedAilment.
Found inBrentwood Sewersat the top of the stairs on a table right before entering theFiltration Access and Servicing Roomoffice (will be labeled on map).
Caustic-X Bomb
An explosive device onTimed Triggerthat flingsCaustic-Xchemical in AoE on explosion, dealingCaustic Damageand theMeltingAilment to all Zombies in AoE.
Reward from completingThe Rav-ages of Caustix XSide Quest inHalperin Hotel.
Sticky Bomb
Explosive Device with aProximity TriggerthatSticksto whatever it first makesContactwith before exploding (if Zombies are near) or after a long delay if nothing has triggered it in that time period.

Military Grenade
Contactexplosive that deals high damage on contact in AoE explosion radius.

Flashbang
Military Flashbang on aTimed Triggerthat inflicts theTraumatizedAilment on all Zombies in AoE. All those in the center of the blast (excluding Apex Zombies) will also beCounterableas well.
Finish theCremains of the DaySide Quest inVenice Beach(in theMilitary Compoundwhere Rodriguez is found) then buy fromNPC Trader W.O. Rodriguezfor$2,500.
Nail Bomb
Explosive on aTimed Triggerthat’s filled with shrapnel. Explodes outward with shrapnel, dealingBleed Damageto all Zombies in AoE and inflicting theBleedingAilment as well.
Found on the dresser near the front door of the only accessible apartment on the second floor of theThalia ResidencesonOcean Avenue(AKA where the ‘Mushroom Club’ group members are encountered).
Bait Bomb
Explosive onTimed Triggerinside a jar filled with Bait. InitialContactserves the same purpose as Meat Bait,Luringall nearby basic Zombies. Then, after a short delay, the explosive in the middle of the meat puddle willExplode.

Electric Bomb
