Summary

Dead by Daylight’s Made For This perk just got nerfed, and that move was likely a wise one for the game’s health. WhileDead by Daylight’s meta has shifted significantly over the years, Made For This quickly became infamous despite only having existed for a few months. While the perk’s effects were simple, they quickly proved to be remarkably powerful in the right hands. Survivors thrived with it, and Killers suffered whenever they had to play against it. It probably says something that after only five months, the developers had to make a major change to its effect.

Made For This is one of theperks fromDead by Daylight’s End Transmission chapter, released in June 2023. Like every new Survivor and Killer, Gabriel and The Singularity each came with a trio of new perks to introduce to the metagame. Many of these perks have good uses, such as Singularity’s Genetic Limits causing long-term exhaustion for Survivors, or Gabriel’s Scavenger being able to recharge a used toolbox. Even though End Transmission opened some new options for players, Made For This ended up overshadowing everything else. In a short time, it ended up being the hottest new perk to power up Survivors.

Not only is Made For This an excellent perk to use withGabriel inDead by Daylight, but it could be splashed into almost any Survivor build to great effect. Made For This grants players a speed boost of up to 3% while injured. When calculated, it provides a bonus of 0.12 meters per second, for a total Survivor speed of 4.12. While this is still slower than base Killer speed, it allows Survivors to make chases take significantly longer. In addition, since most high-level Killers like Nurse and Blight have strong options to close distance, Made For This ended up making lower-tier Killers even worse.

Made For This also had a lot of chemistry that could create severalpowerful Survivor builds inDead by Daylightby combining with other perks. A few strong combinations involving Made For This include:

While Made For This was already a menace on its own, the sheer amount of combos that it could create made it a scary sight for killers.

In the latest update, Made For This saw a significant nerf that should affect its ranking amongDead by Daylight’s best Survivor perks. Now, rather than triggering while injured, the speed boost only works when the survivor is affected by Deep Wound. Very few Killers actively use Deep Wound, so Made For This would mostly be a problem against Legion and Deathslinger. However, the drop in overall usefulness is likely to make Made For This' usage drop significantly, so even that may not be a concern. It’s worth noting that Made For This' other effect, granting temporary endurance upon healing another Survivor, remains unchanged, giving it potential in healing builds.

Few perks managed to make a splash as large as Made For This. While it no longercounters most killers inDead by Daylight, it will still have a niche use even if it’s likely to become rather obscure following the nerf. It was a dominant perk in the first few months after its debut, so much that the nerf feels like a vital move in order to rebalance the game. Not only was its effect strong, but its trigger condition was nearly impossible to play around. Made For This may have been nerfed inDead by Daylight, but its run at the top won’t be forgotten.
