Video games based on Japanese anime are a dime a dozen. One of the most recent titles to garner a lot of attention online wasDragon Ball Z: Kakarot, which is still seeing support since it released in January through updates like atime machine allowing players to re-experience story events. Today, the Sony subsidiary anime and music production company Aniplex announced thatKakarot’s developers, CyberConnect2, are working on a new game calledDemon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - Hinokami Keppuutan.
The game, based on last year’s popular anime series adapted from a manga created in 2016, is being made with Unreal Engine just likeDragon Ball Z: Kakarotand will be available in 2021 on the PlayStation 4 in Japan. Its developer was also responsible for theNaruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Trilogythat released on Nintendo Switchin 2018.Demon Slayer’s first foray into the interactive medium will be published by Aniplex, rather than Bandai-Namco as was the case withKakarot.

Aniplex’s reveal trailer is just about the definition of a teaser, showing a brief cinematic ofDemon Slayer’s protagonist Tanjiro Kamadoin what looks to be an appealing cel-shaded style doing what he does best: Slaying a demon in the hot-blooded pursuit of revenge. Though not much has been revealed about what the newDemon Slayergame will entail, CyberConnect2 has a track record that suggests it will at least be worth looking into for fans of the anime.
