TheElder Scrollsseries is filled with some of the greatest fantasy roleplaying video games ever made. While the first two titles were pretty admirable in their own right, it’s whatMorrowindbrought to the table that truly propelled this series to the mainstream. The massive open world and multiple playstyles allowed players to spend hundreds of hours in this game without getting bored, with future games in the series adopting the same design ethos when developing a riveting open-world RPG.

Ancano

TheElder Scrollsgames have many notable characters, with fans having their favorites across the historied legacy of this series. However, some characters are positively heinous, and players love to either go against them or outright put an end to their very existence.

8Ancano – Skyrim

The College of Winterhold is an interesting location in Skyrim whereplayers can engage in a riveting questline. While the idea of becoming a member of this college even if players have no magical skills may be slightly odd, most people would forgive this issue after playing through the quest and realizing how much of a crime it would be to miss it.

The main antagonist of this quest line is Ancano, a Thalmor agent who looks down upon any commoner or other seemingly unremarkable individuals. His thirst for power leads to him killing innocent mages, and he would’ve annihilated everyone in the school had it not been for the Dragonborn’s timely intervention.

Dagoth Ur in Morrowind

7Dagoth Ur – Morrowind

Dagoth Ur isthe main antagonist ofMorrowindwhom players fight at the end of the game. He’s a corrupted individual who is responsible for spreading the dreaded corpus disease across the land in a bid to control an army of deranged individuals whose minds he controls.

This character is immortal, and players need to get rid of the source of his powers before they can even think of taking him out. His quest to conquer all of Tamriel is halted by the Nerevarine, who gives him a final death and saves Morrowind in the process.

Mankar Camoran with the mountains of Skyrim in the background.

6Mankar Camoran – Oblivion

Mankar Camoran is the leader of the Order of the Mythic Dawn, a cult dedicated to worshipping Mehrunes Dagon. Suffice it to say, the cult is pretty evil, torturing members and getting them stuck in a loop of being cut down by nightmarish Daedra over and over again.

Camoran lets these atrocities happen in the name of Lord Dagon, with his heinous attitudemaking him an easy target for the Hero of Kvatch to mow down. His obsessive worship of this Daedric Prince is truly disturbing and shows just how deluded he was.

5Maven Black-Briar – Skyrim

Maven Black-Briar is a character everyone loves to hate inThe Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. She is a power-hungry aristocrat who doesn’t mind assassinating people and stepping over others to secure a better position for herself, with her cold-hearted attitude being quite sinister to witness firsthand.

Most people wouldn’t want tohelp the Imperials during the Civil Warsimply because aiding them helps her to become a Jarl, aiding her quest for power even more. Her connections with powerful organizations like the Dark Brotherhood make her a force to be reckoned with in every way.

4Orvas Dren – Morrowind

Orvas Dren is the leader of the Camonna Tong, an infamous criminal syndicate thatplagues the land of Morrowind. Suffice it to say, the person who controls such a cutthroat organization is bound to be a horrid person, given the sheer nature of the atrocities committed by them.

Orvas Dren’s quest for power knew no bounds, and he was even willing to kill his brother to further his illegal ambitions! The fact that he even parlayed with Dagoth Ur himself showed just how corrupt his morals were.

3Syl – Oblivion

While paranoia is something serious and people suffering from the same should be given proper help, there’s a line that needs to be drawn here regardless. If the person suffering from said paranoia is a ruler who slaughters and tortures their subjects because of their fears, then that’s not something that can be easily excused.

Syl is the Duchess of Dementia and exhibits this horrid behavior to a T. She is one of the two rulers that can be assassinated by the protagonist, and most people would choose to kill her since she’s arguably the greater of two evils.

2Harkon – Skyrim

Dawnguardis one of the best expansions ever released by Bethesda, with its focus on vampires being pretty engaging. During the main quest of this DLC, players interact with many unique figures, including a vampire named Harkon.

He hides his true motivations until much later in the series when it’s revealed that he worships one of the Daedric Princes, Molag Bal. This reverence took on an ugly form, with this twisted villain killing and sacrificing numerous people in the name of the malevolent deity.

1Mathieu Bellamont – Oblivion

In many ways, the story of Mathieu Bellamont is a tragic one. When he was a little boy, he saw his mother being beheaded by one of the members of the Dark Brotherhood, causing him to go insane as he saw this twisted and gory sight.

Following this moment, he decided to infiltrate the Brotherhood under the guise of an assassin, killing anyone who stood in his way while dismantling the group from the inside. His thirst for murder coupled with his unhinged personality made him a pretty disturbing character.
