At the end of last year following various holiday sales, the tide began to slowly turn forCyberpunk 2077. No one has forgotten its disastrous launch, but the number of patches released since then has made it a more stable and fun experience. CD Projekt Red is likely to capitalize on this momentum, and fans know how too. Currently,Cyberpunk 2077’s PS5 and Xbox Series X version, as well as Patch 1.5 (rumored to be big), are set to release some time early this year.

Of course, “early this year” is still a huge gap for when this update could release. If a recent discovery is any indication, though, it could be sooner than some initially thought forCyberpunk 2077.

Twitter account PlayStation Game Size is known for digging through the PlayStation network backend and other technical components to find new information. For example, this is howHorizon Forbidden West’s file sizewas first revealed. Now, the account has dug through the PlayStation Network again and found an alternative cover art (seen below) forCyberpunk 2077. The logical conclusion, as noted by PlayStation Game Size, is that this is the cover art for the upcoming PS5 version.

It’s no huge logical leap, either, that if the cover art for a game icon is there, then it’s likely the full current-gen release ofCyberpunk 2077isn’t too far behind. It’s worth noting that theCyberpunk 2077PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are likely to release on the same day, so this suggests this for both platforms—not just the source of the discovery. According to PlayStation Game Size, who is familiar with these backend operations, this could suggestCyberpunk 2077’s next-gen release could happen in mid-February to early March.

If this proves to be true, then fans can expect CDPR to announce a release date in the coming weeks—if not days. CDPR’s last comment on the situation also confirmed that thePS5 and Xbox Series X upgrades forCyberpunk 2077would be free, giving players a chance to return to it if they’ve kept it after launch.

It’ll be interesting to see what comes of this, and many are likely excited forCyberpunk 2077’s 1.5 Patchtoo, which is likely to coincide with this release. If it’s as big as fans think, then this may very well fully turn the tide on how players view the often-maligned game, opening up the perfect chance to release a fun, big, successfulCyberpunk 2077premium expansionlater this year.

Cyberpunk 2077is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One. PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are in development.
