Summary

The development team of CD Projekt Red’s first-person action RPGCyberpunk 2077has just revealed that its upcoming 2.0 update may cause overheating issues with some PC setups. Thebase game ofCyberpunk 2077is already resource-heavy, and the devs are warning players that the coming content will most likely be just as taxing to their devices, if not more.

Cyberpunk 2077has been available since 2020, and the title expanded to the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X/S current-gen consoles in 2022. The game had a rough start, especially since the release was rife with bugs and issues that impacted the entire gameplay experience. However, that did not seem to deter CD Projekt Red, especially since the companyannounced thePhantom Libertyexpansion last September 2022. And now, with the content update releasing later this month, the devs thought it was the right time to warn fans about the technical issues they may encounter when playing the game on their PCs.

According to Filip Pierściński, the lead scene programmer of CD Projekt Red,Cyberpunk 2077’s 2.0 updatemay cause some PCs to overheat. Pierściński specifically mentions PC cooling systems, warning them that the content update and thePhantom Libertyexpansion will “use all what you have,” indicating just how resource-heavy everything will be. To set expectations, he mentioned that 8-core CPUs will probably have a 90% workload when playing the game, so he suggests that players benchmark their setups on Cinebench to ensure a smooth experience on release.

Pierściński is quite helpful on the Twitter thread, answering technical questions that theCyberpunk 2077community may have about the 2.0 update and DLC. Given how much content will be added into the base game, it is not surprising that it will be more taxing on devices, whether players are gaming on console or PC. Nevertheless, the fan base is likely hoping that the release ofPhantom Libertyand the 2.0 update will be smoother than the base game’s launch and that there won’t be a lot of issues that affect the gameplay experience.

With only a few weeks until release, fans ofCyberpunk 2077do not have to wait long to get their hands on the new expansion. And even if they currently do not have the budget for it, the action RPG’s 2.0 update will still implement some of the DLC’s upcoming features, so there will still be something new for everyCyberpunk 2077player to enjoy.
