TheClone Highreboot will officially be released in 2023, with series co-creator Christoper Miller also informing fans about the show’s new home on HBO Max.Clone Highis an animatedadult science-fiction showwith a unique premise, chronicling the adventures at a fictional high school whose entire student body is made up of teenage clones of famous historical figures. The show, which also served as a parody of popular teen sitcoms of the time, primarily focused on the clones of Abe Lincoln, Joan of Arc, and Gandhi, with the clones of JFK and Cleopatra also frequently relevant. While the initial reception around the show was mixed, and the character of Gandhi’s clone attracted controversy early on, the show found new life after it was cancelled.RELATED:The Last Of Us Series Release Date Officially Announced By HBOFollowing news from as early as 2020 thatMTV was planning aClone Highrebootwith the original creators attached, Miller, who originally conceptualized the show in conjunction with longtime friend Phil Lord, confirmed the series would return next year. In a post on Twitter, Miller wrote, “20 years ago today our first show, CLONE HIGH, debuted. It seems about time to unfreeze the clones. They’ll be fully thawed out in 2023 on HBOMax.” He also uploaded a simple GIF accompanying the announcement, showing the hair ofClone Highcharacter JFK being thawed out of deep freeze with a hairdryer.
Miller, who was also responsible forteasing theClone Highseries returnby revealing the first episode title, also replied to his original tweet with a similar GIF featuring Cleopatra in place of JFK, with the more basic caption, “drip drip drip.” While co-creator Lord tweeted a similar message a short while before Miller’s, his tweet was far more explicit. “To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Clone High… @hbomax gifted us some industrial-strength hair dryers! Thawing out in 2023,” read Lord’s tweet, with the Abe Lincoln version of the GIFs attached.
While reboots have become increasingly common and many fans have become desensitized to announcements for upcoming projects, Miller and Lord have done a great job of keeping fans as excited as they are, such as when the two gavenew information about theClone Highrebootin a January interview. When discussing the progress on the series, Lord revealed, “…we’re recording voices, and it’s a two-season order, so every episode is in some part of the process right now. It makes it a really busy time, but it’s also really fun.”
On release, theClone Highreboot would join the large selection ofexcellent sci-fi series on HBO Max, much to the delight of several fans. However, with reboots being as popular as they are and often debuting to mixed receptions from lovers of the original shows and movies, fans and executives alike will have to wait and see how successful the upcomingClone Highreboot will be.
