Call of Duty: Modern Warfarefeatures a Message of the Day that lets the developers highlight new content or point out features that some fans may not have realized are in the game. However, theCall of Duty: Modern WarfareMessage of the Day has drummed up some controversy in the past, with some claiming thatInfinity Ward was using the Message of the Day to trollabout things like claymores, which were notoriously overpowered before getting nerfed. Now some players are finding a new Message of the Day that promotes PS4-exclusive content on PC.

Reddit user yp261 posted a screenshot of a newCall of Duty: Modern WarfareMessage of the Day that promotes the PS4-exclusive Spec Ops Survival mode, even though they were playing on PC. Spec Ops Survival is a timed-PS4 exclusive that won’t be available to PC or Xbox One players until November 2020, which is something that has been met with significant backlash since it was announced. The post has over 1,000 upvotes and appears to be legitimate, though we didn’t see this particular Message of the Day when checking on Xbox One.

It’s possible thatInfinity Wardaccidentally featured this Message of the Day to players on PC and Xbox One and removed it. It’s also possible that some Message of the Day posts are unique to certain players. We also can’t rule out the possibility that this was faked since we were unable to verify its existence in our own testing. Whatever the case may be, it still highlights the continued disappointment from fans aboutSpec Ops Survival being a timed-PS4 exclusivefor such an extensive period of time.

On the bright side, it doesn’t seem like PC and Xbox One players are really missing out on all that much when it comes to Spec Ops Survival. Fans responded to yp261’s thread reassuring them that Spec Ops Survival in the newCall of Duty: Modern Warfarepales in comparison to the version of the mode that was featured inModern Warfare 3. This wouldn’t be all that surprising, as the Spec Ops co-op mode in the newModern Warfaredoes appear to have been an afterthought compared to the campaign and multiplayer, launching with just a singleclassic Spec Ops missionand being plagued by a whole host of technical issues on the Operations maps.

Regardless of its quality, the timed-exclusivity of Spec Ops Survival has understandably rubbed some fans the wrong way, and this Message of the Day would be like pouring salt in the wound for players who are still upset by it. It also comes at an especially bad PR time for Infinity Ward, as the studio is being widely criticized for a perceived lack of communication since launch, with many fans expressing their disappointment overCall of Duty: Modern Warfareupdate 1.09failing to address community concerns about the game. This Message of the Day will potentially just sour some fans even more on the game and the studio.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfareis out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
