WithCall of Duty: Modern WarfareandWarzoneSeason 4 rumored to release sometime this weekafter a brief delay due to current events, fans are once again getting excited to get their hands on the new weapons, operators, maps, and battle pass rewards that will come with the next major update to the game. The guns this upcoming season are especially worthy of anticipation, considering their popularity in other games and their potential to totally change the meta. The Vector in particular is a weapon that fans have been pining after for a very long time now.
The Vector has been teased forCall of Duty: Modern Warfareall the way back to Season 1, when it was originally leaked. That means that fans have been waiting for the Vector longer thanWarzonehas even existed. The hype for the Vector goes beyond just the length of time that fans have been waiting for it too: it is a great looking weapon and has been featured in many video games and is almost always a popular choice wherever it appears. The Vector has a lot of hype around it because of its futuristic design and unique operating characteristics, but when added toCall of Duty,it may also totally shake up the SMG class.

What is the Vector?
In reality, the Kriss Vector is an extremely modular PDW, or Personal Defense Weapon, designed to fire relatively large caliber rounds at an extremely high rate while still being compact and controllable. The weapon can fire .45 ACP rounds at around 1,200 rounds per minute, a blistering pace compared to even thesuper-speedy MP5’s 800 RPM. Despite having such a high fire rate, the reason the Vector is so famous is because of its design focused on reducing recoil. The gun’s bolt travels backwards and then down, giving the vector its iconic shape and making the recoil impulse tend to trend downwards, rather than up according to some users.
While not all buy into the Vector’s hype and marketing around recoil reduction, it does have a unique recoil impulse compared to other weapons, and is an iconic weapon regardless. The version added toModern WarfareandWarzonewill certainly have an incredibly high fire rate and will almost likely have a very different recoil pattern to other weapons. That’s a good thing, as it will add some much-needed variety to the SMG class, which is dominated by just a few strong options. The Vector is also extremely versatile, with a huge variety in calibers, barrel lengths, and attachments that can transform it to suit all manner of uses. As has been seen constantly inModern WarfareandWarzone, the more versatile, the better, which is also likely the case forthe upcoming Galil.
How the Vector Can Replace the MP7
Just as the RAM-7 shook up the AR class by adding in an option that issuperior to the M4A1 at close range, the Vector should be used to shake up the SMG class. At one time, the MP5 and the MP7 were the two best SMGs in the game, dominating in close- to mid-range combat. The MP5 has excellent attachments for increasing range and improving stealth, making it a beast up close and serviceable at surprisingly long ranges. Meanwhile, the MP7 had much faster handling and a higher fire rate, making it a monster up close on small maps. After SMGs were nerfed, though, the MP7 ended up with a much longer time to kill, making it far less viable. The Vector may be able to step in and take its place as the close-range king.
The Vector will most likely have .45 ACP ammo, which was recently buffed, making weapons like the 1911 pistol far stronger at extremely close ranges than they were before. With .45 caliber ammunition at 1200 RPM, nothing will be able to stand in the Vector’s way up close. It should be pretty well balanced though, considering that it will have very severe damage dropoff at range. If it does indeed have an unusual recoil pattern, it will also be less favored by the masses. As is the case with theM4A1, it is popular not because it is all-around better than all the other weapons in its class, but because it is the most predictable and reliable.
The Vector may well be the RAM-7 to the MP5’s M4A1, serving as stiff competition to the fan-favorite weapon depending on what range the user wants to excel at. Season 4 will see other changes too, including promised bug fixes, so there may be some re-balancing in SMGs. If the MP7 and P90 see a minor buff, the SMG class will be filled with great options that could go toe to toe with the Vector. For now though, players should prepare to see a lot of Vectorszipping around on Shipmentalmost as soon as Season 4 drops.
