AlthoughCall of Duty: Modern Warfarewas just labeled the“most played”Call of Dutyof this generation, the latest franchise entry has faced its fair share of troubles. Now, a new bug has appeared that is seemingly blocking players from earning XP inModern Warfaremultiplayer matches.
On both theModern Warfaresubreddit and forums, players are reporting an inability to earn XP during multiplayer matches. This is not a widespread issue in that it occurs all the time, but it happens frequently enough and for enough players that the online community is discussing the issue. As of this writing, developer Infinity Ward has yet to address the issue, but given the holiday timing, it’s possible that a response might not arrive until early next week.

The worst part about the XP bug inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare– beyond the obvious fact that players are not earning progress for multiplayer matches – is the fact that no one seems to understand what causes it. Some reports say that the issue is widespread enough that it impacts a whole multiplayer lobby, while others say it only happens to them.
Another troublesome issue with the bug is that it also apparently impacts gun camo progress in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Players report that they have earned thousands of XP in a match and completed a number of kill objectives, and yet neither of the progress meters move an inch. Others also report that the XP doesn’t count forchallenges or missions inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare, which is just another frustration.
The good news is that, for some players, the XP bug only lasts for a short time and the actual progress is “banked.” Eventually, the XP will appear for players and they will see the progress towards their next rank, mission, challenge, and evengun camo. Others have not been so lucky, but it’s possible they logged out before everything caught up.
With so many reports online, it’s very likely that Infinity Ward will work to squash theCall of Dutybugand eliminate the issue. Unfortunately, for the time being,Modern Warfareplayers will have to deal with the lack of XP whenever it does occur.
